Business Analyst Jobs

Business Analyst Job Description

Business Analysts perform a variety of tasks in a corporate setting. Acting as problem solvers, they may use their knowledge of business and technology to help choose software, improve manufacturing processes, develop new products or come up with a marketing strategy.

They will work with top executives and stakeholders to ascertain the goals of the organization. Then, they have the responsibility of coming up with a technology plan to meet these goals. Once they’ve come up with a plan, they will help the information technology team to implement the new strategy while also making sure everyone has a clear understanding of the vision.

Industries that may hire Business Analysts include software companies, investment firms, telecommunications companies and engineering firms. Consulting companies also hire business analysts to lead and manage projects. Entry-level business analysts may be required to have a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Business Management. Technical knowledge and skills in SQL, .NET, Perl, VBScript and Six Sigma are also a necessity for those in this analytical field. Personally, the business analyst must be a strong communicator, a good leader, critical thinker and problem solver. They mostly work in the office, but some travel may be required.

After some years in the field, some Business Analysts will advance to managerial positions. They may also opt to become experts in technology or project management. Many will take jobs with firms or start their own consulting business for the next phase of their careers.
