UX Designers focus on the look and feel of a website or platform; UI Designers focus on a website's functionality. UX Designers are concerned with how a product is organized, ensuring that there is a logical chain of events that takes the user through a series of assumed actions. To ensure that decisions flow logically from one choice to another, they rely on story mapping and whiteboarding, as well as create mockups using Adobe software platforms like Photoshop, Sketch, Illustrator, Fireworks and InVision. To best anticipate customer action, they often study behavioral patterns, relying on both research and in-person testing. Most large companies have standalone UX Researchers to assist with this process; within smaller boutique settings, UX Designers are often responsible for conducting their own research.
