Network Engineers design, develop and manage network systems. They are charged with establishing the right network environment, installing hardware and troubleshooting for data faults. Network Engineers are also responsible for configuring routing and switching equipment as well as ensuring the installation of recent software updates.
Network Engineers experience similar working conditions across most industries. They typically work an average of 40 hours each week, in a fast-paced office alongside server, switches and other network equipment. While there is no specific education path to becoming a Network Engineer, most employers require a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field. Network Engineers may also complete vendor-specific certifications to improve their qualifications.
