QA Engineers are tasked with designing and implementing best practices as they ensure that company standards are met when it comes to the quality of a final product. In order to do this, QA Engineers need to use a variety of automated functional load tests as well as be able to manually test certain software aspects when needed. Because this position works very closely with a number of other staff, excellent communication and documentation skills are needed. One must also be able to gather and analyze large amounts of data in order to iron out problem areas.

In terms of education, QA Engineers need to have an undergraduate degree in computer science or equivalent work experience. Many times, however, a company position will also require a master level degree. Being fluent in industry-standard languages such as Java is paramount, as well as having a firm understanding of the Linux operating system.
