Engineering Managers are in high demand and manage all disciplines of engineering specialists from mechanical to software engineers. Large-scale projects and systems often require content from many different disciplines of engineering. Large teams of engineers within a given discipline often work at businesses like defense aerospace, engineering design and private sector companies. Managers of these skilled workers can be either functional managers, purely engineering managers or both. Functional managers are responsible for the everyday care of assigned engineers and provide administrative support, performance ratings and similar items that don't necessarily have anything to do with the technical part of the engineering job. Engineering managers also handle the technical aspects of guiding other engineers on their team.
