Requirements

The Web Project Manager manages web related projects that are critical to Georgetown's online presence. S/he leads and guides customers through the development life cycle of creating their websites. Georgetown websites are currently housed in multiple enterprise content management systems (CMS), and the number of sites is in the hundreds. The CMS allows departments and organizations at Georgetown University to easily manage and maintain their websites through a Web interface. Working with Administrators, staff, faculty, and student Web developers in all parts of the University, the Web Project Manager has additional duties that include but are not limited to:

Web Project Management

* Defines and describes services provided by UIS under guidance of the enterprise CMS Product Manager.
* Develops and manages a project plan for each project, prioritizing projects and developing management plans for risk, time, human resource, cost, scope, quality, and communications associated with each project.
* Maintains the status associated with the project, including schedules, client contacts, budgetary and revenue spreadsheets, bug list, issue list and completion criteria.

Client Relationships

* Enters a discovery phase with the project sponsor to document functional requirements and project constraints.
* Manages client relationships, from initial client inquiry and project initiation, to project closeout and support services.
* Acts as the primary contact for clients, responding during and after projects and promoting advantages of an enterprise CMS to clients working outside of a CMS.
* Provides details of standard services, negotiating premium services according to priorities, resource availability, and advice of the Product Manager and Manager.
* Develops documentation and provides training for the system, acting as end user support for clients.
* Responds to ongoing client inquiries and acts as primary point person for roll out service, serving as liaison to other UIS staff on Web services inquiries.

Communications, Marketing, and Business Goals

* Contributes, develops, and advocates the adoption of Web standards in strategic areas that support the long-term growth of the enterprise CMS (including base style sheets, metadata conventions, template requirements, findability, and online measurement).
* Collaborates with Web developers and Web communications roles on institutional adoption of Web standards, supporting documentation efforts for these standards through internal wiki and office file sharing services.
* Develops Web analytics strategies for Web projects centered around client business goals and produces online measurement reports to support business users in decision making.
* Follows industry developments in standard for CSS, HTML, JavaScript, Web analytics, and metadata, supporting enterprise search requirements through the Google Search Appliance (GSA).

Project Partners Coordination

* Adheres to existing technology standards, university policies, and best practices.
* Works closely with Web services staff to manage the project and assign appropriate resources, and with the Office of Communications to ensure protection and awareness of university brand and communications issues.
* Coordinates configuration, account, and server issues with Web Services and other UIS staff.
* Coordinates with school webmasters when migrating departmental websites.

Site Configuration

* In collaboration with Client and Product Manager, replicates or modifies information architecture as content items, and sets up CMS components (for example, modules and templates, or channels and skins).
* Migrates content from old system to new or, where appropriate, guides client in performing migration.
* Adapts existing or modified graphic design to CMS templates, including use of XHTML and CSS.
* Conducts thorough testing and quality assurance, training new users to get familiarized with the CMS system.
* In collaboration with the client, develops completion criteria list, maintains status of criteria, arranges client signoff, and oversees launch.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, Computer Science, Management Information System, and other related fields
* 2-4 years of relevant experience managing IT projects
* Interpersonal skills, fluency in writing and speaking, a strong service orientation, and close attention to detail
* Agile project management, and/or business development experience preferred
* Experience working with university constituents such as faculty and administrators preferred



Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certification

* Expertise with web development tools and concepts (such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript)
* Experience deploying websites using a content management system (CMS) in a multisite environment
* Familiarity with WordPress and Drupal CMS products
* Knowledge of usability, analytics, search engine optimization, and accessibility principles
* Understanding of server side scripting languages, data elements and advanced Web tools
