UW Medicine's Information Technology Services (ITS) department is a shared services organization that supports all of UW Medicine. UW Medicine is comprised of Harborview Medical Center (HMC), Northwest Hospital & Medical Center (NWH),

Valley Medical Center (VMC), UW Medical Center (UWMC), UW Neighborhood Clinics (UWNC), UW Physicians (UWP), UW School of Medicine (SOM) and Airlift Northwest (ALNW). In addition, UW Medicine shares in the ownership and governance of

Children's University Medical Group and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (a partnership between UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research and Seattle Children's). ITS is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the

infrastructure and applications which support all of these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the UW Medicine mission.

The Analytics Group has a dual report into both ITS and UW School of Medicine and provides operational oversight for the major analytics platforms and tools at UW Medicine, and is a key support function as UW Medicine transitions towards

value based health care. The Enterprise Deveopment team provides analytics solutions across UW Medicine; specifically for finance, operations, institutional quality improvement, research, and clinical analytics.

We are seeking a Visualization BI Developer ('Developer') who will work closely with our customers and a team of Analytics Analysts to provide analysis, recommend appropriate solutions, and develop solutions using the most appropriate BI

tools. This position comprises various tasks such as working with developers, creating Tableau dashboard reports, creating BI reports and visualizations, and participating in feedback sessions to improve systems.

The primary responsibilities of the Developer are to:

Work with Business Analysts and customers to gather, analyze, and document BI requirements.

Design, code, test, and maintain BI reporting, visualization, dashboards, and analytics objects using industry best practices.

Provide production support.

Respond to help desk tickets related to the BI development tool set.

This position will collaborate with the partners of UW Medicine to develop visualization and dashboard solutions that will support analysis of financial, operational, and strategic activities. The Developer needs to work with the many

different business customers, prioritize requests, meet analytics needs, validate data to ensure data quality, and communicate status and progress. The Developer needs to have strong attention to detail in order to spot inaccuracies in

coding or data. Additionally, the Developer must remain focused when working on multiple solutions displaying data from several systems at the same time. The position requires creativity and the ability to create innovative solutions to

business problems. The Developer needs to be self-motivated and have the initiative to find solutions and improvements to systems during prototyping and customer testing phases.

Data analytics is a strategic function within UW Medicine with a large set of growing demands. The proper execution of the Developer function with UW Medicine is essential to both tactical and strategic success of UW Medicine overall.

This role provides crucial support to UW Medicine and its partners for all of the major initiatives that require visualization or dashboards to deliver information to all levels of the organization and affect change. The analytics

solutions developed by this role are used to support clinical, operational, and financial reporting and analysis and are key to the success of the organization as a whole. Adhering to best practices and standards helps support

enterprise-wide goals and ensures data standardization across the enterprise.

Responsibilities include:

Implementation of BI Solutions (50%)

Develops visualization or dashboard solutions in a proficient and timely manner, consistent with estimates created during design, with minimal technical assistance and support. Creates data visualization solutions to improve business

processes. This job involves tasks such as creating Tableau dashboard and visualizaiton reports, working with all levels of business partners, and attending feedback sessions to improve systems.

Conducts unit tests and develop database queries to analyze the effects and troubleshoot any issues that arise. Independently tests solutions developed prior to any external reviews or testing.

Develops and maintains supporting documentation (design documents, report inventory, promotion requests, etc.).

Leads interactions with customers to communicate status, resolve issues, and obtain signoffs (i.e., when the design is complete, when the testing is complete and/or ready for promotion, etc.)

Performs efficient, complete hand-offs to other developers when required.

Reports project status and issues to the reporting team manager in a timely manner.

Production Support of BI Solutions (25%)

Researches questions and issues involving Production BI solutions.

Works with data architects, SQL administrators, BI administrators, BI developers, and others as needed to resolve to production issues.

Provides on-call production support for selected times (month end processing, year end processing, system upgrades, etc.)

Lead code review for ITS and Affiliated Developer Tableau workbook and data sources to be deployed to Production.

Planning and Documentation (25%)

Utilizes industry best practices, creating and documenting best practices and technical requirements.

Coordinates with Business Analysts, Data Architects, SQL Administrators, BI Administrators, and technology professionals to understand and document technical requirements, capabilities, and limitations.

Works as part of a large team and works towards shared business and department goals.

Responsible for all project planning related to BI solutions development tasks including effort and completion date estimates.

Responsible for performing and completing all tasks in the agreed upon time lines.

Works independently on assigned tasks with minimal assistance.

What you'll bring to the table: (minimum requirements)

Bachelor's degree in Computer science, Information Systems, or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience.

2+ years experience must include the following:

2+ years' experience with data visualization tools (i.e. Tableau).

2+ years' experience with SQL.

2+ years' experience working through the complete report development lifecycle.

Complete and demonstrable understanding of BI reporting best practices.

The successful candidate will also have:

Proven customer service orientation with a history of delivering high quality products on time.

Demonstrated capability to forge effective partnerships with diverse business partners.

Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to convey a positive and professional image in person, on the telephone and in correspondence.

Demonstrated excellent organizational skills with proven attention to detail.

Ideally, you'll also have: (desired skills and experience)

3+ years' experience with Tableau.

3+ years' experience with SQL.

3+ years' experience working through the complete report development lifecycle.

1+ years' experience with Epic Clarity Data Models.

1+ years' experience working with large data sets.

Ability to understand complex data models and schemas.

Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts.

Experience with SQL design and optimization.

Experience with formal project management methods.

Demonstrated analytical ability to effectively perform all phases of projects.

Previous experience in a healthcare environment and knowledge of the healthcare industry.

What are some of the other tidbits that you might want to know?

The individual in this position is expected to work normal daytime hours. However, significant off-hours and weekends may be needed to resolve problems and during implementation and maintenance activities. This individual is also

expected to be available for call on a 24x7 basis as needed.

Because of the physically separated sites for UW Medicine, this position requires the ability to quickly access sites, using personal means of transportation. Travel to/from includes, but is not limited to, UW Medical Center,

Harborview Medical Center, downtown Seattle, and other facilities which are affiliated with UW Medicine.
