Job Description

As a member of the User Experience team of the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF), supports leading scientific researchers utilizing the leadership computing resources at Argonne. Focuses efforts in the areas of improving the user experience as well as stewarding users through ALCF allocation programs.

Key aspects of the role include but are not limited to the following: providing technical support, providing secure access to the system, accounts and projects management, maintaining and improving key user workflows, providing resolutions to user requests and issues, connecting ALCF subject matter experts to users, and writing scripts to automate workflows. May work with researchers on compiling parallel computing codes, writing scripts for automated execution, and assisting with debugging issues.

Position Requirements

* Good technical consulting and support skills, possessing innate abilities in diplomacy and tact
* Flexibility and the ability to work on multiple concurrent projects efficiently and effectively.
* Good analytical, problem-solving, and learning skills.
* Excellent oral and written communications skills.
* Good knowledge of and hands-on experience with languages like Python, C/C++, and FORTRAN.
* Experience writing and debugging shell scripts.
* Considerable knowledge of UNIX systems use and administration.
* Knowledge of HPC systems and concepts.
* Ability to assist with the development and maintenance of training materials for users.
* Some experience with DBMS.
* Knowledge of source code management systems like Git and subversion, as well as CI tools like Jenkins.
* Experience with vi or Emacs
* Good knowledge of incident tracking systems.
* Strong interest in emerging technologies and applications
