What you'll be doing...

As our Ultra Long Haul (ULH) Route Planner, you will be responsible for defining, engineering, and resolving network capacity requirements for Verizon's ultra-long haul transport network. You will utilize high capacity next generation light wave and wave division multiplexing technologies to meet network services capacity, vulnerability, diversity and growth requirements.

* Performing equipment engineering, developing specifications for installation, turn-up, inventory, and configuration of equipment.
* Issuing purchase orders, creating diagrams/drawings, and ensuring vendor delivery.
* Providing diversity analysis for internal groups in support of future customer orders, mesh network growth, and converged core data networks.
* Monitoring and optimizing ULH network segments. Performing wavelength rearrangements as needed to reduce stranded network capacity. Researching and deactivating unused network systems.
* Researching and identifying ULH segments in need of overbuild due to future expiration of fiber/cable/conduit/property leases, network growth, requests for network diversity, and decommissioning of legacy DWDM platforms.
* Providing strategic support for Intelligent Edge Network (iEN) expansion.
* Coordinating with COE and leased vendors for space/power, leased cable segments.
* Coordinating with contracts to acquire leased cables/conduit. Coordinating with OSP to build and splice owned fiber assets.
* Coordinating with real estate to acquire properties for building regen shelters as needed to support fiber path.
* Forecasting and prioritizingtwelve or moremonths forecast of network builds to capital planning and detail multi-year programs for DWDM platform decommissioning.
* Supporting Global Transport Network Operations Center by identifying planned maintenance events on leased and owned cable routes as well as providing ad-hoc restoration for priority systems in the event of cable outages.
* Coordinating with lease contracts organization, capital planning, engineering, project management, operations/RCAT, and internal management to provide reports to detail project progress and identifying areas where attention is needed to progress projects

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

* Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
* Four or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have:

* A degree.
* Experience in creating new ULH builds/system design.
* Experience with capacity management for OTN mesh network and ULH systems.
* Experience in Ciena equipment, particularly the 6500
* Experience moving from one ULH system to another (currently undergoing a system migration)
* Experience with engineering, planning, and/or Operations knowledge, especially with Local and Long-Haul Telecommunications networks.
* Knowledge of PC and software application including Windows and MS Office.
* Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple, often conflicting priorities to their successful completion.
* Excellent verbal and written skills for inter-organizational communications to both internal and external partners.
* Experience making independent decisions based on policies, practices and project requirements
* Four or more years of experience in the telecommunications industry.
