Job Description

Introduction

Thomas J. Watson said it best: "Good design is good business." Visualization is critical to discovering data-driven insights and effectively communicating that knowledge to others. Designers at IBM work to create experiences that work together, work the same, and work for our clients. Does the thought of creating the platform at the heart of solutions like Watson, Blockchain, IoT, and Security excite you? If so, read on!

Your Role and Responsibilities

The Digital Growth and Commerce Design team is looking for an experienced designer to help create the next generation IBM.com experience. You will be working with a team that is driving their mission to help IBM's customers find and start using IBM products - by turning complex business logic and processes into delightfully intuitive and effective interfaces and experiences.

Candidates for this role should excel at advocating for the user, while communicating ideas and experiences to a wide variety of audiences. We are looking for a creative, curious, and questioning designer, who is able to take and provide critique and has a ton of initiative.

To be successful, you are an out-of-box thinking UX/UI designer with deep hands-on experience and knowledge in UX and UI design.

Responsibilities Include:

* Translate concepts and user research insights into designs that illustrate simplicity despite system complexity.
* Conduct user research to learn about user behaviors and identify pain points to inform the team's design and development efforts.
* Communicate the intended experience through artifacts such as concept maps and models, wireframes, workflows and prototypes of varying fidelity.
* Clearly document designs for development implementation
* Juggle multiple projects while effectively managing timelines and expectations
* Champion design decisions with research data and rationale.
* Act as a subject matter expert around the above responsibilities as well as in the general design field to help the team make the right decision.
* Promote positive collaboration across disciplines regularly (UX, visual, FED, research, OM) throughout each phase of the product release cycle

Required Professional and Technical Expertise

Requirements

* A degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Web Design or related field
* 4+ years of experience in design
* Mastery of design and prototyping tools such as Sketch & Adobe creative suite.
* Portfolio that displays a solid understanding of design research, user experience or visual design principles
* Successful track record participating in interdisciplinary teams informed by stakeholder and user inputs
* Experience working with other teams designing and producing collaboratively
* Ability to self-manage
* Hands-on experience in design thinking and agile methodologies
* Understanding of related technologies (web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
* Experience creating clickable prototypes (Invision)
* Solid training and experience in design principles and practices such as typography, layout, color theory, interaction design, and user centric design
* eCommerce and SEO experience a plus

Preferred Professional and Technical Expertise

Skills Required:

* Excellent creative, conceptual, systems-thinking, and problem solving skills
* Experience solving complex design problems
* Leverages user research insights in all solutions and articulates logic, process and decision-making rationale in their work
* Promotes positive collaboration across disciplines regularly (UX, Ul, FED, Research, Product) throughout each phase of the product release cycle
* Able to address change with flexibility and ease
* Written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate alternative approaches
