As a UI Designer & Engineer, you'll be working in a collaborative team of developers on diverse projects for TeraLogics' Product Team. To be successful as a UI Designer and Engineer, candidates must be proficient with:

* Designing user interfaces and customer experiences for web-based applications using Javascript frameworks, libraries and best practices
* Designing and implementing navigation flows, page layouts, color schemes, and graphic elements to attract users' attention and solve complex problems

This position works closely with Product Owner and Scrum Master to gather user requirements and expectations and validate concepts through iterative prototypes and usability testing.

Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science or a related graphic design discipline. Candidates must meet eligibility requirements to obtain a U.S. Government clearance. Position will be located in TeraLogics' Ashburn, Virginia office.

Job Details:

What you'll do:

* Leads visual design of projects from wireframe/mockup concepts through to implementation of web solutions


* Collaborates with a cross-functional team including developers, testers, marketing product management and customers to create new solutions, facilitate feedback and achieve design decisions


* Ensures consistency of application appearances using style guides and helps enforce established standards and best practices


* Ensures design elements, templates and solutions work for a variety of browser types and screen settings


* Designs products following coding standards and in accordance with Agile development methodology, tools and release processes


* Estimates level of effort during sprint planning, evaluates open source options of similar technologies, and offers suggestions


* Applies a sense of urgency, commitment and focus to the right priorities when developing


* Participates in design or peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions


* Contributes ideas for process improvements, including coding practices, standards and tools


* Performs technical root cause analysis and debugging to outline corrective action for complex software defects


* Demonstrates knowledge of critical thinking and problem solving under limited supervision and direction


* Engages in continuous self-improvement of technical skills by staying up-to-date with new web design trends and technologies



What we're looking for:

Education:

* Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science or related discipline


* Two (3) years of software development experience or Master's degree in a technical discipline plus one (2) year of software development experience



Experience/Skills

* Passion for UI/UX design, including wireframing, graphical compilations, and prototyping


* Experience designing and developing responsive, interactive web applications using Javascript frameworks (e.g. React), libraries and build tools


* Familiarity with front end web frameworks, such as Bootstrap


* Experience leading design efforts using HTML, CSS, and JSON web services


* Understanding of HTTP protocol and RESTful data structures


* Skilled with design software, such as Photoshop or Illustrator


* Strong understanding of Linux. Experience with CentOS, Redhat, and Ubuntu a plus


* Experience working with version control systems, preferably Git


* Experience working on an Agile software development team


* Ability to work closely with internal and external customers in analyzing software requirements


* Strong written and verbal communication skills to ensure internal clients and colleagues understand status of projects or tasking



Bonus points:

* Experience using JavaScript IDE, preferably Webstorm


* Experience working with database technologies like PostgreSQL


* Experience with video technologies including streaming web video: RTMP, HLS, MPEG-DASH, H.264 encoding
