Job Description

Lead a team to rebuild our order processing and management system for scale.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Curoverse is a business unit of Veritas Genetics. At Veritas Genetics, you will help hire and lead a new team of software developers and dev/ops engineers. You will take ownership of our order processing and management system that tracks orders and orchestrates the journey of samples starting in the lab, through bio-informatics processing and ultimately to report delivery.

You will be responsible for maintaining the system and empowered to make architectural changes to ensure the system can reliably scale to millions of orders processed per year.

You will work closely with the Arvados software development team. Arvados is used to manage genomic data storage and processing at Veritas Genetics. The order processing and management system interfaces with Arvados, e.g. to keep track of orders and to orchestrate the journey of samples from order through the lab to report delivery.

This position is based in Davis Square, Somerville, MA, with regular travel to Danvers, MA for interaction with the users of the order processing and management system.

RESPONSIBILITIES

* Help hire, organize and lead a small technical team (3-5 people)
* Be a hands-on technical leader for your team
* With your team, take ownership of the order processing and management system that is in production
* Design and implement architectural changes as required for scaling and reliability without disrupting production
* Use good software engineering practices to build the new system as a high-quality product supporting multiple deployments

WE'RE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO...

* Has experience working in a production environment
* Has experience leading an effective small team of developers
* Has a proven track record analyzing complex business systems
* Is comfortable doing user interviews to determine requirements
* Has experience re-architecting systems to make them scale while fitting business requirements
* Can read at least two of PHP, Bash and Python
* Knows at least one other, high-performance programming language well (hint: we are a Golang shop)
* Has experience with Drupal or can pick up the necessary technical knowledge quickly
* Is a quick study, not easily overwhelmed when confronted with many choices
* Has solid intuition on technology choice that will pay off in the long run
* Has a preference for practical solutions, rather than the latest shiny framework
* Has experience building scalable, modular systems
* Is a good communicator
* Can work in a fast-paced startup environment
