Job Description

Position Summary

The candidate is responsible for the day to day program management of devices and software in preparation for submission for technical acceptance. In this role they will drive daily activities necessary to prepare the device / software for necessary development and test activities, maintain schedules for submissions and approvals and coordinate and lead customer interactions and communications. In addition to the program management tasks, this individual will be the initial engineering representative for Samsung using technical knowledge to proactively interface with developers, test activities and carrier customers to understand and analyze any issues which arise during the development process and communicate with development team to resolve issues in a timely manner. Above all else, excellence in this role requires the desire and capability of acting with initiative.

Role and Responsibilities

* Maintain good stakeholder communication primarily with R&D teams, local technical and marketing teams, and carrier customers
* Track and execute multiple project schedules, milestones and deliverables simultaneously, for executing wireless products via carrier approval process from pre-lab entry to technical acceptance/approval.
* Work closely with software, hardware, UX, product management, and quality assurance teams, and use creativity to find solutions to technical and logistic issues.
* Regularly communicate the project status and key issues to management.
* Prepare daily reports which clearly identify any project risks along with corrective action plans and clear ownership.
* Prepare and manage all hardware and software deliverables to the customer and work with development to ensure all required materials are available in advance to committed delivery date.
* Identify and report all schedule risks along with clear corrective action plan and owners with sufficient lead time to maintain project schedule
* Identify critical and urgent issues correctly and make corrective action items and/or recommendations to management and issue owners in timely manner
* Use technical engineering knowledge and experience to understand customer applications, test cases, and requirements.
* Lead other team members and provide necessary guidance for better efficiency and effectiveness
* Drive the project approval process for assigned carrier from product introduction to launch. Ensure all testing is completed (either leveraged from parent device or new), programmatic and technical issues are resolved, and HW and SW deliverables
* Address and drive to resolution all post-launch market issues reported by their carrier and internal parties. Work with post-launch team to resolve technical issues. Work with R&D SW team to plan and execute regular software updates to introduce new features / capabilities and resolve identified issues.
* Resolve technical issues reported by the carrier during the device certification process. Report and track issues with appropriate R&D teams, work with carrier test engineers to replicate failures and collect appropriate data and logs for analysis by SME's. Relay issue status to carriers and negotiate scope and timeline to provide fixes.
* Attend regular product reviews and represent all device delivery schedules, open issue investigations and plans for device software maintenance releases
* Understand technology roadmaps and manage commercialization and launch of new features for their carrier. Manage new technology and feature trials for assigned carriers.

Skills and Qualifications


(Minimum qualifications required to perform this job)

* Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field preferred with business or program management focus.
* 5 years experience in program management of consumer electronics or software development projects with 5-10 years overall experience in the telecommunications or software development engineering

Experience must include:

* Strong technical background and experience working with customers in Wireless products area
* Experience working with embedded consumer products
* Working experience on Wireless Carrier certification is Plus.
* Android or handset development experience a plus.
* Project/Program Management of software and hardware products is plus.
* Develop and maintain excellent technical skills including proactive, customer service oriented working relationships with all appropriate levels within and outside the company.
* Plan, organize, and prioritize multiple engineering support assignments and projects as directed by the manager of the group and/or other departmental officers.
* Read, interpret and act on very high level of proper understanding of technical documents, engineering test materials and related documents based on corporate engineering standards and philosophy.
* In customer service related situations demonstrate high competency level in communication skills using both oral and written modes for internal and external personnel at all management and staff organizational levels for both persuasion in sales decision activities and/or the communication of technical information. Must be able to communicate in writing, through email and reports, or orally complex technical matters to an audience that may include less technically oriented listeners.
* Work independently and in a team environment in order to achieve personal and team goals and complete assignments within established time frames. Tasks are guided by clearly defined objectives and functional direction with an implied knowledge of task alternatives and decision making experience.
* Skills and knowledge to test and evaluate new Wireless Products, including the verification of product features by simulation and/or reproduction of errors and complaints of Wireless products.
* Must be able to read, analyze and interpret technical requirements and procedures
* Fluency in both Korean and English is highly desirable

Physical/Mental Demands and Working Conditions: The position requires the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in the following environment:

* Work is generally performed in an office desk or lab environment.
* Requires considerable movement and transportation of equipment or samples with a high security mentality
* Performs work under time schedules which are normally periodic or cyclical and include: time sensitive job stress, fatigue, intellectual challenge, constant technical data feedback, language barriers, and product management stress.
* Highly ethical personality preferred to handle unpublished samples and equipment. (Requires not to disclose all information and knowledge to public)
* Operate a computer keyboard and view a display terminal for more than 40% of work time, including prolonged periods of time.
* Perform reliability tests by operating small model devices for more than 50% of work time.
* Frequently works additional hours beyond normal schedule.
* Require business trips for short terms and long terms; short terms from 1 day to 2 weeks and long terms up to more than a month.
