Job Description

Box is looking for a Technical Duty Officer to join our Network Operations Center and support an industry-leading platform. It is the responsibility of the NOC to monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues that affect the availability and quality of the Box platform. The NOC is the frontline of defense in making sure our customers like GE, Pandora, AstraZeneca and Gap have a seamless experience when accessing their content on Box.

The TDO is an integral job function within the NOC that ensures the overall production site health and the performance of core customer facing journeys. The TDO must maintain total site awareness, detecting metric and service deviations, monitoring change, and proactively identifying potential issues and resolving before they escalate to impactful levels. Additionally the TDO will serve as the final level of escalation for exception handling in the change management process and for emergency changes to the Box live site.

Responsibilities:

* Senior technical leader with breadth and depth. Multiple specializations over a career in the 5+ year range is preferable.
* Eagerness and ability to learn constantly - twice as confident in their ability to learn as in the depth of their existing knowledge.
* A successful TDO must have Systems Administration knowledge, if not specialization.
* A strong spirit of ownership.
* Rock solid command presence.
* Builds tools, processes, and capabilities to improve manageability, visibility, resiliency and time to restore service for critical incidents.
* Identifies repair items, and contributes to the postmortem process.

Qualifications

Skills:

Strong and effective communicator

Strong troubleshooting and problem solving abilities. Ability to learn new technologies and technical domains.

Persuasive leader. Able to lead a team in a pressure situation to resolve a critical incident

Good collaborator who builds relationships with other technical teams

Process oriented with a strong attention to detail and follow-through

Required experience:

Strong knowledge of Linux Red Hat, Unix, Perl and Shell scripts

Thorough understanding of the TCP/IP suite, routing protocols such as BGP and OSPF and DNS

5+ years technical systems knowledge and internet industry terminology

Operations experience at scale a plus

Private and Public cloud experience a plus

Flexibility to work shift model
