Technical Architect, Lab

ROLE DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Technical Architect is a key member of the SES Networks Ground Systems engineering team providing technical leadership and expertise in the Lab environment mimicking production end-to-end systems. The Technical Architect will lead SES Networks design, implementation and operation of Lab environments to support all defined market segments and services utilizing automation techniques. The Technical Architect shall work closely with product development, multidiscipline engineering teams, and operations teams to ensure the Lab environments meet the needs of its customers. This role will be at the forefront of innovating how SES operates its development and test resources.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / KEY RESULT AREAS

* Design and lead the addition of new functional and physical capabilities to the various lab environments
* Lead a multidiscipline Lab team in the development, buildout and provisioning of system level and component level test environments
* Lead the initiative to automate testing where possible to significantly increase efficiency of all resources
* Develop the control and resource management solutions to support product development, integration and pre-production environments for RF, network and compute assets
* Manage the activities of vendors and Lab customers to ensure systems are delivered in a timely manner within budget, meeting all requirements
* Effectively communicate status of current Lab capabilities and ongoing initiatives to technical and non-technical stakeholders
* Evaluate new and emerging technologies for introduction or integration into the technical roadmap
* Manage the development and document requirements, specifications, interface, test plans and test-activities
* Lead the network design in all test environments to allow secure access to all stakeholders such as functional team members and vendors as needed
* Other ad-hoc tasks, as assigned by Line Manager

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

* BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or similar
* Master degree in Engineering, Computer Sciences, Telecommunications or similar, preferred
* 8-10 years of experience in satellite communication systems, satellite terminal systems or satellite-based networking & data systems; Ka-Band systems experience a plus
* Experience in the development or application of VSAT baseband equipment
* Experience in development and deployment of VSAT networks
* Juniper or Cisco certifications and/or experience e.g. JNCIA / CCNA
* Knowledge of internet based network connectivity principles and implementation
* At least 5 years of operational experience in remote baseband, IF, RF, antennas, and WAN/LAN equipment
* 2+ years of experience in a leadership position in systems engineering and operation
* In-Depth knowledge of Telecommunications Satellite Systems including VSAT systems
* Highly experienced in developing and maintaining high availability satellite or telecommunications systems through the use of manned and unmanned facilities
* Complete understanding of GEO, MEO, and LEO telecommunications satellite technologies and systems
* Excellent/Good command of MS Office package (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio)
* Working knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems
