Job Description

Works as a liaison among business stakeholders in order to elicit, analyze, communicate, and validate requirements for changes to business processes and the development of business solutions. The business analyst's primary responsibility is to understand business problems and opportunities in the context of the requirements and recommend solutions that enable the organization to achieve its goals. Under general direction of the Tax Specialty Applications Solutions Director and/or Program Manager, leads and directs analysis activities for high-priority projects requiring high degrees of functional integration and field input.

Essential Duties:

Planning, Gathering & Documentation

* Work with Tax Specialty solutions director, solution architect, sponsor, stakeholders and project manager to understand the product's vision, and intended scope of the project/product
* Conduct stakeholder analysis to identify the roles, processes and systems that will be impacted by the requirements and identify appropriate representatives for each user group and plan for their involvement in the requirements process
* Determine the best elicitation techniques, requirements deliverables, and amount of time needed from stakeholders based upon knowledge of a given project or product; document that information in a requirements work plan that includes a clear business analysis approach and scope, requirements communication plan, deliverables to be produced, and business analysis tasks to be performed
* Prepare for and conduct requirements elicitation sessions using a variety of techniques including: brainstorming, interviews, surveys, requirements workshops, observation, document analysis and focus group sessions
* Work with other Business Analysts (from Tax, IT or 3rd party vendors) as needed on requirements
* Document elicitation results and validate with stakeholders and to ensure the captured requirements align with stakeholders' expectations
* Write requirements specifications clearly, unambiguously and concisely using standard templates
* Defines requirements for solutions needed to transition from an existing solution to a new one

Analysis, Management & Communication

* Organize, model, and specify requirements with the appropriate level of detail given complexity, risk, and audience
* Work with Tax Specialty solutions director, solution architect, other business analysts, project stakeholders and project team members to validate, prioritize requirements and agree on assumptions and constraints
* Decompose high-level business and user requirements into functional and nonfunctional requirements, specified in an appropriate level of detail suitable for use by project team members who base their work on the requirements
* Represent requirements using alternative views (ex. models/diagrams) where appropriate
* Communicate requirements to ensure all stakeholders have a shared understanding and to secure necessary approvals
* Manage issues and changes to base-lined requirements by identifying business impact of proposed changes and through effective application of change control processes and tools
* Manage trace-ability of requirements to ensure alignment to project goals and objectives as well as alignment to development and testing plans
* Manage requirements documentation throughout the SDLC

Solution Readiness, Assessment & Validation

* Works with Tax Specialty solutions director and solution architect to understand the proposed solution(s) and how it aligns with requirements and maximizes value to stakeholders
* Define acceptance criteria, perform gap analysis on proposed solutions, and make recommendations
* Participate as needed throughout the solution development as an advocate for the underlying business requirements and to provide, gather clarifying input where required
* Work with project team to evaluate impact of defects and to develop plans for resolution or other mitigation
* Works with the Tax Specialty solutions director, project team and field resources to prepare for solution readiness (such as training materials, communications, and user-facing solution documentation) 25%

Basic Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree required
* Business degree with an Accounting emphasis, IT emphasis or Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) credentials preferred
* Proficient in MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
* Strong oral and written communication skills
* Strong attention to detail, motivation, and initiative
* Interviewing skills to talk with individuals and groups about their needs and ask the right questions to surface essential requirement information
* Listening, observation, and oral communication skills to understand what people say and to detect what they might be hesitant to say
* Analytical skills, to critically evaluate the information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a more general understanding, distinguish solution ideas from requirements, and to distinguish user requests from underlying needs
* Facilitation skills to lead requirements elicitation workshops
* Organizational skills to work with the vast array of information gathered during elicitation and analysis and to manage rapidly changing information
* Interpersonal skills to help negotiate priorities and to resolve conflicts among project stakeholders
* Modeling skills to represent requirements information in graphical forms that augment textual representations

Preferred Qualifications:

* Minimum of 3+ years of business analysis experience working in a development environment or 3+ years of corporate or partnership income tax experience with a strong background in tax process and technologies
* Prefer proven experience in business process analysis & improvement
* Prefer prior public accounting or financial experience with a mid to large size firm(s) or other professional services experience
* Prefer experience with project management methodologies
* Prefer experience working with 3rd party and vendor relationships
* Ability to work within a team environment on concurrent projects and activities
* Ability to be responsible and effective while working remotely
* Self-motivated and pro-active approach to follow up on job assignments
