Job Description

Would you like to be a key contributor to a team that is solving complex problems for the United States Navy? If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

We are seeking an experienced software engineer, computer scientist, or software systems engineer to help us develop a complex testbed of deployed Naval systems. Our team develops and maintains an integrated network of real-time software systems representing the full lifecycle of Naval systems and sensors. We work to ensure that the tactical and model code that we develop meets the standards set by the Navy and demonstrate that rehosted deployed systems perform as they would in the field. In this position, you would be part of a team of engineers and analysts who bring their expertise to bear in order to make sure our US Navy sailors have the best tools for their jobs.

As a Software Engineer

* Your primary responsibility will be to develop and analyze real-time tactical and model software for deployment to the US Navy.
* You will develop and maintain a simulation framework which will allow systems to communicate and interoperate in a real world setting.
* You will analyze system performance to aid in discovery and correction of bugs, report on capability and identify and test areas where systems can be improved.

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

* Possess a BS in computer science, computer engineering or a related field and a minimum of three years experience.
* Can demonstrate working knowledge of software development in C/C , Java, python and/or other modern languages.
* Are familiar with analysis of system performance.


* Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Are capable of working both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.
* Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government secret clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

* Possess a MS in a related technical field with a strong math background.
* Are experienced in modern software development methodologies.
* Have experience with distributed computing and messaging services.
* Have an active Secret level security clearance (or above).
