Systems Engineer

Job Description

- Perform Systems administration of UNIX/LINUX servers including assisting OS upgrades, applications performance monitoring via NewRelic, Nagios, Pingdom, and other available monitoring tools, user support, security alerts, and technology assessments. Good hands on experience with RedHat system engineering adminstration. Works with the business units to provide the implementation of applications support strategies and methodologies, applications and server performance improvements, optimization, and problem analysis. Participates in developing application support policies, standards, and procedures. Keeps records of maintenance activities and system performance. In this position, you will work on promoting ITIL "Continues Process Improvement" plans for application support Level 1 engineers.

Responsibilities:

* Troubleshoot problems or issues with system software, K12 applications, and vendor
* Performs applications and systems software evaluations and make recommendations to improve performance.
* RedHat Systems engineering administration and trouble shooting.
* Assis DevOps with application Compatibility and Interoperability Testing
* Develop and maintain documentation required to support the VM servers and applications they reside on them.
* Create and update trouble tickets
* Event Monitoring for up/down device status and other reported errors

o Report any issues/ outages to the NOC Manager or designee

* Develop network documentation, including diagrams, Standard Operating Procedures, and work instructions
* Perform additional tasks as directed by senior personnel

Requirements • Broad understanding of Unix/LINUX operating systems

* RedHat certified system engineer.
* Able to utilize software and hardware diagnostic tools to identify, diagnose and repair complex problems and factors affecting systems performance
* Must be able to be on call 24/7/365 to sustain availability and SLA
* System Engineer should also have the ability and flexibility to perform a number of engineering tasks at one time and lead small teams, able to accept increasing responsibilities
* Must have sound communication skills, both written and verbal
* Being a strong team player is a must
