Job Description

The Advanced Development team is responsible for fostering new development initiatives evolved through business development channels, FLIR's internal technology roadmap, and through relationships with research labs. Surveillance is a dynamic and diverse business area with technologies spanning EO/IR systems for air, vehicle, maritime and soldier-borne applications. As System Engineer, you will lead or support the invention and creation of new enabling technologies and architectures to advance technologies spanning EO/IR systems for air, vehicle, maritime and soldier-borne applications. The selected candidate will work closely across the organization identifying and maturing emerging technologies which lead to key product discriminators. This position may require travel up to 25% of the time to support development and system reviews.

Preferred Locations: Dallas, TX. Secondary, Billerica, MA or Portland, OR

Duties/Essential Job Functions

* Invent, propose, and create new concepts which enhance and expand the capabilities of the Surveillance organization.
* Lead development of these concepts, or support other projects, to mature the technology and support transition to Product Development.
* Build working prototypes to demonstrate the feature/concept or a significant aspect of the design.
* Support or lead development of are the Engineering Specifications and business case justification.
* Candidate will work closely with product development engineers during the hand-off transition period.
* Must effectively interface with various internal and external organizations to support development of sound new feature business cases and monitor the business case health throughout development.
* Develop relationships with customer and research labs to learn about the emerging requirements and technologies to drive the formulation of solution strategies.
* Contribute, support and conduct technical presentations and proposals internally as well as to industry.

Required Skills and Education

* Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a minimum of 10 years' experience in the development of systems solutions.
* Imaging Technologies (cameras, video processing, and displays).
* Sensor fusion experience.
* Experience with one or more of the following market segments: UAV/UAS, Airborne, Maritime, Vehicle and/or Force Protection.
* Demonstrated strong record of technical innovation, research, and development
* Must have strong analytical skills with demonstrated experience in technologies that can be successfully applied to EO\IR developments
* Excellent verbal, written, collaboration and interpersonal communication skills
* US Citizenship and eligible for Security Clearance
* Experience working with geographically and culturally diverse teams
* Ability to form a vision and implement action plans to achieve that vision
* Entrepreneurial mindset
* Positive track record of transitioning technology into products
* Proven ability to share and transfer technology across organizational boundaries to the benefit of our customers and the business
* Membership and participation in applicable technical consortium
