Introduction:

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Radar Systems Engineer. Our Mission is to evolve radar concepts and algorithms to support our Nation's warfighters. Through modeling, simulation and advanced analysis techniques, we strive for the highest level of insight possible on radar system capabilities, limitations and opportunities. Our solutions are grounded in a deep understanding of the problem space including radar phenomenology, state-of-the-art technologies and the associated uncertainties.

This position will enable you to apply your skills and talents in providing our Nation's Warfighters with the most effective and advanced missile defense sensors.

Job Summary:

System Engineering in the development of Ballistic Missile Defense radars, including concept development, performance analysis, modeling and simulation, design assessment, requirements development and validation and process management related to Sponsor's requirements engineering activities.

Duties (Listed in order of importance with the estimated amount of time spent at each task):

1. Design, conduct, oversee, and document analyses to explore concepts, verify requirement feasibility, quantify functional and performance gaps and derive and provide information to support Sponsor decision making. 50%

2 Collaborate as a radar Subject Matter Expert with peers across all system disciplines to arrive at radar requirements that will drive optimal system performance. 30%

3. Write and revise radar system requirements in accordance with Sponsor processes. Generate artifacts, including trace reports and requirement closure citations, necessary to obtain Sponsor approval of new and modified specifications. 10%

4. Support and/or conduct informal and formal requirement reviews, within the Laboratory and before the Sponsor 10%

Required Qualifications: BS in EE, Math, Physics, Systems Engineering or equivalent. Minimum 5 years experience in systems engineering and analysis, requirements development, and/or modeling and simulation. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated effectiveness in working in a team environment. Engineers and scientists with little radar background but otherwise solid analytical ability are encouraged to apply. Ability to obtain a Secret clearance.

Desired Qualifications:

MS in Electrical Engineering or Systems Engineering with strong radar background. Experience in requirements management, verification, and/or radar design. Experience with MATLAB and/or DOORS. Experience developing and employing high fidelity simulations for radar performance prediction, particularly in ballistic missile defense.

Special Working Conditions:

Infrequent travel to sponsor, contractor, and peer organization facilities for meetings and reviews.

Security: Applicant selected will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
