Position Summary:

The System Technician II has in depth knowledge and experience with both Windows and Mac operating systems, applications, and hardware. This technician provides first level support on all desktop, laptop, thin clients, printers, scanners, copiers, phones, audio/video, and tele-presence devices. The System Technician installs, configures and supports the system software, firmware and applications that run on our desktop, laptop, thin client computers. This position also performs limited system administration work on some of our system software.

Position Responsibilities:

* Continuously evaluate and ensure optimum methods of desktop, laptop, and thin client system reliability, security and performance.
* Review results of service requests to address any deficiencies in training, installation practices, and repair methods. If this review uncovers any opportunity for improvement, present recommendations to resolve the issue to appropriate co-workers and Enterprise Technical Services (ETS) management.
* Maintain awareness of latest technology by reading periodicals, attending professional organizations, communicating with outside firms and communicating with software and hardware vendors.
* Perform limited system administration duties on some of our system software under the direction of a more senior person.
* Coordinate with outside suppliers when their services are required to maintain or repair equipment.
* Escalate more complex issues to the relevant IT support team member.
* Assist in the planning and implementation of any new hardware or software installations.
* Assist in evolving our processes and procedures used by ETS department.
* Maintain hardware asset tracking information.
* Purchase data processing supplies.
* Manage service desk tickets by prioritizing them and communicating status to the ticket requestors.

Position Requirements:

* Associate degree in Information Systems or a major related preferred


* 3-5 years of experience as a system technician working with Information Systems


* Demonstrates intermediate ability to effectively discuss ideas and information in ways that are understood and appropriate to target audience.


* Demonstrates intermediate ability to effectively document ideas and requirements in ways that are understood and retained.


* Demonstrates intermediate ability to present requirements and demonstrate completed functionality to decision makers and stakeholders.


* Ability to listen, understand and respond to external and internal customers' needs in a timely manner; customer service experience in a service-related industry preferred.


* Ability to work the time necessary to complete projects and/or meet deadlines.
