Northrop Grumman's Aerospace Sector, Military & Civil Space Systems Division in Azusa CA, is seeking a qualified Functional Manager for the System Products & Test department within Systems Engineering to perform key assignments on Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS), Defense Support Program (DSP), Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), and other space programs. The SBIRS and DSP programs deliver timely, reliable and accurate missile warning and infrared surveillance information to key decision makers. The system enhances global missile launch detection capability, supports the nation's ballistic missile defense system, expands the country's technical intelligence gathering capacity and bolsters situational awareness for warfighters on the battlefield. The architecture includes a resilient mix of satellites in geosynchronous earth orbit (GEO), hosted payloads in HEO orbit, and ground hardware and software. The integrated system provides robust performance with global, persistent coverage. JPSS ATMS provides global environmental data used in numerical weather prediction models for forecasts, as well as provide space weather observations, search and rescue detection capabilities, and direct read-out and data collection products and services to customers; this information about our planet is vital to our ability to plan, predict, respond, and to protect lives and property like supporting climate research as well as operational weather and storm forecasting for civil, military, and international partners.

The position requires solid payload system products and test knowledge and leadership in EO/IR space payload systems to help establish and execute effective technical work processes and procedures, and provide functional management for four sections totaling approximately 50 systems engineers. This includes launch rehearsal planning and execution, system test planning and execution, generation of system databases and payload command products, assessment of payload state of health, and operations support of operational payload constellation. Must possess ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Technical understanding of payload operations and SBIRS Mission requirements are strongly recommended. The candidate will be required to integrate input from internal department staff, program leadership, and other departments, and participate in decision making on matters of a larger scope. Management activities include review of business needs, re-tasking of staff, identification of staffing needs, interviewing and hiring staff, performance planning and appraisals, and professional development of staff.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned commensurate with performance or due to business needs.

Basic Qualifications:

* A Bachelor's Degree in a S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) field with 7 years of experience in Space and/or Defense industry; OR a Master's Degree in a STEM field with 5 years of experience in Space and/or the Defense industry


* 5 or more years of functional leadership experience


* 7 more years of engineering experience in the payload design of electro-optical and Infrared (EO/IR) payload systems


* 5 or more years of technical payload products and test experience including technical payload launch or operations experience


* Payload systems engineering experience


* Active DoD Secret Clearance must be held and maintained. U.S. Citizenship is required.



Preferred Qualifications:

* Master's degree in a STEM field


* 15 years of related space and defense industry experience


* Proven ability to lead and influence a high performance team


* Proven effective communication skills across all levels of the organization


* Knowledge of and experience with the SBIRS Program, SBIRS missions, SBIRS Payloads, and SBIRS Payload Operations


* Knowledge of and experience with generation of system databases and payload command products, assessment of payload state of health, or system test planning and execution


* Active DoD TS/SCI Clearance
