Job Description

Systems Development Engineer - Amazon Web Services - Boston, Massachusetts

Do you want to shape the future of cloud storage? Are you passionate about building next generation distributed file systems? Do you want to grow and be part of a team that is building a service used by hundreds of thousands of customers every day? If you said yes to any or all of those, come join the Amazon Web Services (AWS) engineering team in our new Boston Seaport location overlooking the Fort Point channel as we revolutionize the world of cloud storage.

Elastic File System (EFS) is the newest AWS storage service poised to grow to hundreds of thousands of servers, exabytes of storage, and trillions of files; and we're just getting started. EFS is a unique service that provides low-latency, shared file system access to tens of thousands of EC2 instances and on-premises datacenter applications. It is a distributed, highly-available, durable file storage service that is fully elastic, growing and shrinking as required. If you have the files, we have the storage!

Embark on a journey with us to build a distributed file storage service that can scale without limits. We need your passion, innovative ideas, and creativity to help take the service to new heights. This is an opportunity to shape the future of EFS. Our mission is to transform the way the world uses file storage. As a member of the EFS team, you will be leading small teams of developers in building large scale features and functionality and participating in architectural reviews of the work of others. You are considered a technical leader for your team. You're excited about designing and implementing solutions that scale while also engaging individual customers in understanding their applications. You take a long term view of your team's software and how it fits into the architecture. You're able to think about business opportunities, operational issues, and architectural diagrams in the course of a single conversation. You're looking for a team of bright, capable engineers to work with in implementing your vision and you want to both teach and learn from other developers around you. You're able to write, maintain, and peer review Amazon-quality code, preferably in Python and Bash, for data analysis, task automation, dashboarding, and other projects contributing to the safety and ease of operating the service. This is a hybrid operations/developer role with an emphasis on operations but requiring solid coding skills.
