Job Description

Ipsos Public Affairs conducts formative, strategic research in partnership with clients from government, public, corporate, and not-for-profit sectors. We use original data and rigorous analyses to understand and manage issues, advance reputations, pinpoint shifts in attitude and opinion, enhance communications, and evaluate policy. We provide clients with advice that goes beyond reporting on data, and is based on a concrete understanding of issues and their context.

We currently have an immediate need in our Chicago office for a:

Statistical Programmer

Statistical Programmers will be members of the US Public Affairs' Data Analytics and Applied Sciences (DAAS) group. DAAS is a team of statisticians, social scientists, programmers, and data specialists based in our Washington DC and Chicago IL offices who develop customized, high quality data and analytic solutions and insights used across the US Public Affairs practice. DAAS researchers are passionate about research, data, solving problems, and innovation.

Currently we are looking for an individual with strong programming skills as well as a background in statistics or quantitative social science research to join our team. More generally, we are looking for self-starters who are intellectually flexible, collaborative, creative, and love problem-solving. A background in survey research is a plus. Applicants should be individuals who are comfortable communicating ideas and solutions to both technical and non-technical colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

* Develop automated statistical programming routines in SAS and Python for recurring research needs. These include but are not limited to:
* Implementing complex stratified sampling designs
* Variance estimation and statistical tests
* Weighting
* Data cleaning
* Data mining
* Constructing benchmarks
* Integrating data from multiple data streams
* Perform statistical analysis of survey data under the guidance of statistician or principal researcher
* Maintain and run legacy SAS programs

Ideal Candidate has the following Skills, Experience, and Attributes:

* Bachelor's degree in in Mathematics, Statistics, Analytics, Data Science, or related fields
* Experience with data mining techniques or data visualization tools a plus.
* Advanced programming skill in SAS, Python, R, C-based languages, or SQL
* Interest in solving complex programming and analytical problems
* Self-motivated individual who thrives in deadline-driven environment
* Client-focused
* Travel less than 5%
* S. Citizen due to Federal contract requirements.
