Job Description

Role Summary:This position is responsible for designing and programming sw application modules, components, frameworks, and platforms. The engineer will design and integrate a feature, set of features, or whole feature area for the Edison Imaging Services Edge Platform. She/he will work independently and contribute to the immediate team and to other teams across the business.

Essential Responsibilities: Lead design discussions in a limited manner and responsible for contributing to the design and development efforts related to scalability, availability and performance in alignment with the platform/application/product roadmaps

Serve as a platform development expert who owns and takes on implementation of features, stories, and tasks in addition to supporting team members who possess less advanced expertise

Capture system level requirements by brainstorming with Architects, Business Partners, Product Owners, & Product Managers

Identify the scope of the work, provide initial estimate and justify the estimate with facts

Demonstrate the understanding of Agile software development lifecycle and able to distinguish the core inputs and outputs in each cycle

Engage in technical discussions; participate in technical designs and present technical ideas

Work closely with your peers and keep engaging in a fast pace technical design and development team

Execute in a fast pace delivery mode and focus in delivering tasks to meet the product release goal

Maintain code quality through best practices, unit testing and code quality automation

Seek and provide feedback on design and development

Demonstrate the ability to make informed technology choices after due diligence and impact assessment

Understand whole platform, its modules and the interrelationship between them while being an expert in the assigned component or module

Help in designing interfaces and information exchange between modules

Possess advanced domain knowledge and show great customer focus. Expert in processes / methodologies and Skilled in build, release & deployment processes

Help define his or her own role in the delivery of the product/service design

Articulate the need for scalability and understand the importance of improving quality through testing

Be an expert in writing code that meets standards and delivers the desired functionality using the technology selected for the project

Drive design reviews, define interfaces between code modules, and applies existing technology to designs

Be an expert in assessing application performance and optimizing/improving it through design and best coding practices

Be an expert in core data structures as well as algorithms and has the ability to implement them using language of choice

Support technical integration of app framework platforms with application development teams across the software technology organization and product software teams

Understand software architecture and apply architecture principles; Work with our Architecture Office and Sr. Staff SW Engineers to generate designs aligned with the defined architecture

Qualifications/Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or in "STEM" Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)

A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in (include technical skill) OR Master's degree with 6 years of experience in (include technical skill) OR PhD with 3 years of experience in (include technical skill)

Desired Characteristics: Demonstrated working expertise with the following or related technologies MicroServices, Kubernetes, AngularJS, HTML5, JavaScript, CSS, JAVA, NodeJS, Spring, OpenStack, ELK, Prometheus, API Management, NetFlix Conductor, Docker, etc.

Experience and competence with sw user interface implementation skills (ex: automatic conformance to screen size and layout variations, internationalization, fonts, etc).

Facilitates and coaches junior software engineers on requirements estimation and alternative approaches to sizing and estimation.

Knowledgeable about SW development in medical imaging in various contexts.

Demonstrates understanding of the intricacies of interactions and dynamics in Agile teams. Guides new team members to adopt Agile. Contributes to elimination of inefficiencies in coding process. Actively embraces new methods and practices that increase efficiency and effectiveness.

Expertise in application toolkit development and/or framework development including application development in imaging and non-imaging areas in medical industry, web viewer based front end development leveraging HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript and Java based backend development. Expertise with different testing techniques including TDD, BDD, unit vs. integration testing and User Interface testing. Familiarity with a wide variety of automated test tools.

Embraces technology trends that drive excellence beyond traditional practices (e.g., Test automation in lieu of traditional QA practices).

Strong problem solving abilities and capable of articulating specific technical topics or assignments.

Experience in building scalable and highly available components and platforms.

Expert in breaking down problems and estimate time for development tasks.
