JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Staff Firmware Engineer will provide technical leadership in the embedded software development and collaborate with cross functional teams to drive to deliver high quality medical device product. This position works independently to design new best in class implantable and external neuromodulation devices, for the treatment of chronic pain and neurological disorders. The Staff Engineer designs products and development tools in a fast-paced cross-functional design environment and is current on new technologies and design practices. This includes providing instruction, oversight, and mentoring to other design engineers and pushing for excellence in themselves and the team.

Job Duties

* Owns embedded firmware/system development from requirements through commercial launch
* Applies advanced engineering and scientific principles to architecture and embedded firmware designs to reduce design risk and optimize design features
* Develops/utilizes models, characterization testing, analysis methods, and statistics to optimize designs
* Creatively solves ultra-low power design challenges
* Performs tasks independently while effectively utilizing other team members
* Mentors, trains, and leads other design engineers
* Appropriately plans
* This is a non-supervisory role

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in computer engineering or related field
* 10+ years of relevant engineering experience in the design and analysis of real-time embedded firmware designs with low power, mixed signal processors
* Functions as a central electrical engineering expert within and across business units
* Provides influence and contributes to engineering excellence in the field of neuromodulation
* Creates novel design solutions that expand the business's intellectual property\
* Understands internal & external customer needs and how to exceed their expectation.
* Ensures that program objectives are determined and met, and resources are effectively coordinated
* Experience architecting embedded real-time systems
* Advanced characterization testing, root cause analysis and utilization of benchtop measurement equipment and test setups
* Strong technical/leadership skills, decisive, determined, strategic and able to lead, motivate, and inspire others.
* Demonstrated track record of strong analytical and problem-solving skills
* A strong team player, results-oriented, excellent communicator, and comfortable in a cross functional environment
* Experience developing firmware and leading teams of engineers in a regulated industry/environment
* Experience developing firmware utilizing Agile principals and best practices
* Working knowledge of statistics & data analysis
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Desired Qualifications

* MS with a minimum 10+ years of experience in professional embedded software development; or BS with a minimum 15+ years of experience in professional embedded software development.
* Master's degree in computer engineering or related field
* Experience with digital signal processing, data analysis and/or machine learning
* Experience with software development for medical devices and IEC 62304 compliance
* Experience planning project deliveries, milestones, and schedules and leading sub-teams in the delivery of firmware tasks schedules and leading sub-teams in the delivery of firmware tasks
* Experience with design and implementation of BLE designs and cybersecurity/data transfer best practices
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
