The Systems Integration Engineering & Test team at Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is looking for you to join our team as a Systems Engineer 5 based out of San Diego, CA.

What You'll get to Do:

ES&T Advanced Missions Communications & SIGINT Operating Unit has a funded multi-year requirement for a full-time senior level Systems Engineer to support program, IRAD/CRAD, and business capture from either the San Diego or Los Angeles area. The engineer will have significant responsibility for the operating unit, to develop Northrop Grumman's next-generation waveforms and systems. The OU requires technical leadership for waveform analysis, design, prototyping, as well as soft-skill capability to represent the OU directly with customers. To be successful, this engineer must have extensive and deep knowledge in the state of the art of radio communications with emphasis on physical layer, and experience with technology for military Low-Probability-of-Intercept/Low-Probability-of-Detection (LPI/LPD) waveforms. The candidate shall be out-of-the box thinker, self-starter and possess a strong Modeling & Simulation skills pertaining to communication waveforms and systems. Proficiency in either MATLAB or Python is required. Minimum active Secret clearance is required.

The Systems Engineer (SE) will support a team by leading and performing: technical planning; system design and analysis; requirements development; and the allocation and communication of system requirements to hardware, software, and integration & test. This SE performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. This SE will be a lead contributor on our strong SE team, working to ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer and product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

In addition, the candidate must be a team player, able to work comfortably and effectively with diverse team members as well as program stakeholders and customer representative. Also, the candidate will be required to support regular technical interchange meetings, on-site technical support, and off-site event support.

You'll Bring These Qualifications:

* Current, Active DoD Security Clearance


* Bachelor's Degree in a traditional STEM discipline from an accredited institution


* Engineering Experience: 14 Years with Bachelors in Science; 12 Years with Masters; or 9 Years with PhD


* Recent experience with one element of modern communications (Comm. Theory, Signal Processing, Information Theory, RF or Digital)


* Experience with deriving hardware and software requirements


* Experience with design, M&S, development, testing and system integration


* Expertise in either MATLAB or Python for end-to-end communications system simulations


* Expertise in Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)



These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

* Electrical Engineering with emphasis on Communications or Signal Processing


* Experience with Modem design and development


* Knowledge of Information Theory and Waveform development


* Excellent written and communication skills


* Ability to work independently and within groups


* Proficiency with test equipment (e.g. signal generators, scopes, analyzers, power meters)
