Overview

This position is for a Software Lead working on Rail project domain applications, including design, development and / or maintenance of Positive Train Control, SCADA, Dispatching, and Information management applications in support of Collins' customers. This position is key and will be a senior member of the Rail Software Engineering organization and is responsible for

Responsibilities

* The role is a combination of technical leadership and oversight, hands-on coding, and coordinating, preparing, and presenting technical solutions.
* Provide technical guidance for the software group on an assigned project.
* Organize SW team activities.
* Provide schedule support and task decomposition.
* Coordinate and collaborate with the Project Manager and other discipline leads.
* Conduct activities professionally and in a forthright manner.
* Train junior engineers.
* Review code and triage issues.
* Support Department initiatives.

Qualifications

* This position requires a Bachelor's degree in the appropriate discipline and 7 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 11 years of relevant experience is required.


* Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline preferred.


* Seven (7) years of software engineering experience in progressively more challenging positions.


* Software architecture and design skills.


* Knowledge of at least two and an expert in at least one of the following:
* C


* C++


* Java


* Erlang


* C#




* Knowledge of relational databases of at least one of the following:
* Oracle


* SQL Server


* PostgreSQL




* Basic project management skills.

* Ability to collaborate and maintain professional conduct with peers, project team members, and management personnel.


* Ability as a self-starter to coordinate team in solving skills.
