The Staff Design Engineer will be a critical part of the concept and product development team for Stryker Sports Medicine, the fastest growing segment of the Endoscopy business. The engineer will partner with surgeons, marketing and technical leadership to create the software and hardware for the next generation of minimally invasive tools for our surgeons and patients. The engineer will lead product development execution teams, including ownership of architectural and detailed design, development of core technology blocks and pushing the leading edge of technology in the operating room. Technologies you have the opportunity to learn and influence are RF plasma tissue ablation, motor control for powered resection of tissue and bone debridement, fluid management for joint distention and pressure management, wireless device control, battery power development, image processing and machine vision, and user-facing iPad applications.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that works on projects with minimal direction. This individual will be highly collaborative and must have the ability to communicate effectively both to technical and non-technical audiences. This person will have strong problem solving and analytical skills and will strive to develop a deep understanding of the clinical needs of the products they are working on.

Technical Skills and Experience

* Candidate does not need to be proficient in all areas but must be proficient in some and be able to demonstrate being a quick learner.
* Software Development: C, C++, C# (WPF/XAML), Real-Time Operating System (GreenHills Integrity), PEG Graphics Software, LabView.
* Hardware Development: Microcontroller 32 bit (Freescale IMX31) and 8/16 bit (Atmel ATMEGA)
* Motor Controller Technologies: low and medium voltage AC drives, BLDC motors.
* Experience developing applications on an Embedded and/or Windows platform
* GIT or similar Software Version Control System
* Experience in developing and utilizing Unit Testing
* Familiarity with Visual Studio Development Environment
* Experience in implementing software architecture design, software requirement phases in all phases of the software development life cycle including requirements, design, implementation, debug, V&V, and transfer to manufacturing
* Perform board-level bring up, debug and verification.
* Sub-system digital and analog hardware architecture design and component selection.
* Hands on experience with test equipment for hardware analysis and debugging (e.g., oscilloscope, logic analyzer).
* Demonstrated pattern of technical innovation and creativity, inside and outside of previous job duties.

* 5-10 years of related design experience.
* BS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
* Demonstrated pattern of technical innovation and creativity, inside and outside of previous job duties.
* Works independently to plan and schedule own activities to meet project timelines
* Works cooperatively with Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing and Project Management to ensure project success
* Collaborates with peers to leverage and share engineering best practices
* Experience with designing software products in an FDA or other regulated industry is a plus
