The Senior User Experience Designer (UI) will have an eye for clean and artful design, possess superior UI skills and be able to translate high-level requirements into beautiful, intuitive and functional user interfaces for Medtronic. You will use your "creative" and "technical" skills, to produce high-quality assets and designs that are viable for our users, our business, and our technologies. These solutions are designed for customers, patients, employees, distributors, suppliers and other audiences. The solutions may be multi-national, multi-lingual, and support all business units at Medtronic. The solutions may be custom, third-party, cloud-based, native mobile or software-as-a-service (or some combination of those). This role will work closely with Human Factors Engineers, Business Analysts, Marketers, Product Owners, Software Development, and other team members to produce design artifacts in a fast-paced, highly-technical environment.

A Day in the Life

Provide support across the product lifecycle including customer and user needs identification, development of user and workplace profiles and usage scenarios, task analysis, requirements specification, generation of hardware and software design concepts (creation of physical models and prototypes, graphical user interfaces, and product graphics), user interface design, and usability testing

Participate in project discovery activities, such as workshops and requirements sessions

Gain an understanding of the business needs for the proposed solutions

Create interaction prototypes for responsive web and native mobile applications, including desktop, tablet, mobile devices at a variety of resolutions.

Deliver high-fidelity, brand-conformant graphics and icons to technical team members

Collaborate with corporate brand and digital team members to be a champion for the brand, as well as a champion for the end user

Work at both the conceptual level and the production level with teams at all stages in the product lifecycle

Use and help maintain a design library or common, reusable components

Produce visual marketing materials, including PowerPoint presentations

Be conversant in, and work comfortably with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)

Propose designs that meet business needs, align with UX strategy, are technically feasible, and meet user needs

Stay current on design trends, best practices, industry standards, and Medtronic corporate branding guidelines

Collaborate with a team of UX Designers and Architects to stay abreast of other solutions in IT, as well as actively seeking feedback on their own designs

Maintain an up-to-date status with corporate training, performance planning and evaluation, and other required employee activities

Work closely with marketing, product planning, engineering, manufacturing, and regulatory to produce customer focused designs that not only meet user needs but also factor in business priorities and platform, architecture, and manufacturing constraints.

Define User Experience project scope and timelines in partnership with project management.

Plan and conduct end user evaluations of product concepts, analyze data, document evaluation methods and results; and present design recommendations to the product team.

Prepare clear and effective oral and written reports of current status, progress and status of project, as required by project or department management.

Interact professionally at all levels throughout the company and with consultants and customers. Comply with applicable Corporate and departmental policies.

Maintain technical knowledge current with advancing technology related to Diabetes products and associated accessories. Complete required training and certifications.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

Applies human performance principles, methodologies, and technologies to the design of human-machine systems and products.

Develops and implements research methodologies and statistical analysis plans to test and evaluate developmental prototypes used in all phases of products development and processes.

Designs and executes tests to simulate product use for the purposes of concept selection/refinement, requirements development, use-related risk identification and formal usability validation with intended users.

Interfaces with design engineers to establish system design, operating, and training requirements and to ensure optimized human-machine interfaces.

Identifies and analyzes technological problems or risks, performs theoretical human factors investigations, and develops and implements research and analysis plans.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Factors, Usability Engineering, Cognitive/Experimental Psychology, Kinesiology, Industrial Design, Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Product Design with 4+ years of relevant experience or a Master's degree in the same with 2+ years of relevant experience

Knowledge of the application various usability engineering principles and tools in the design, development, and evaluation of hardware and software products brought to market.

Have a clear understanding of all aspects of User Experience Design

Possess an awareness of design patterns for web, iOS/Android, accessibility, why they are important, and how and when to use them

Work within waterfall or iterative methodologies effectively

Work effectively with all levels of the organization

Communicate clearly, in written, verbal and visual forms, being equally facile with technical and non-technical team members.

Possess deep knowledge of the tools and technologies in order to communicate effectively with technical roles in the IT organization and elsewhere

Defend design proposals with rationale supported by data. Possess ability to present designs and sell solutions to various stakeholders

Ability to integrate creative skills with innovative problem-solving techniques to develop design concepts.

Strong oral and written technical communication skills. Strong ability to work with and lead multidisciplinary teams that may include other HF experts.

Ability to quickly understand and become proficient in domain knowledge.

High tolerance for change, ability to multi-task continuously, and be willing to travel.

Ability to work independently with limited guidance and develop comprehensive plans and solutions to complex issues.

Strong negotiation, conflict management, and influence management skills.

Have a working knowledge of diabetes.

Previous work experience or internships in the medical domain.

Familiarity with the product development processes based on IEC 62366.

Experience integrating the User Experience design process into a Systems Engineering process.

Experience with diverse technology platforms, including mobile applications.

2+ years of experience using Sketch, Illustrator or other visual design tools

Experience using Axure, Balsamiq, InVision, Adobe Xd or other prototyping tools

Front-end development skills (HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript or other)

Solid knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio

Experience designing highly-complex transactional systems

Experience conducting user testing / user research

A commitment to the value of usability testing and user research
