Facilitates accurate and efficient communication between English and Japanese speakers through native-level translation and interpretation of business-critical subject matters ranging from technical specifications and product design to business development and strategy

Collaborates with teams across Nintendo of America (NOA), sister companies, and Nintendo Co., Ltd. (NCL) to build comprehensive knowledge of the subject matter and prioritize translation tasks

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

* Translates and reviews technical and non-technical documents, web forums, and business correspondences to support the accurate and efficient exchange of information using appropriate cultural relevance and etiquette
* Interprets for video conferences and live meetings at both an executive and working-team level covering concepts Nintendo's business strategy and detailed technical specifications
* Experience translating/interpreting material related to: Functional and business requirements, legal matters (incl. laws/regulations, contracts, IP), user interface and user experience, customer support, technical specifications, manufacturing and repairs, marketing, public relations, business development
* Technical areas include: programming concepts, hardware, operating system and system software, network and platform security, streaming video, web technologies,
* Proactively identifies communication gaps and needs, and recommends and implements solutions
* Partners with internal teams to build a comprehensive knowledge of projects ensuring effective and timely translation
* Independently prioritizes and coordinates translation tasks
* Independently proofs and assesses the quality of translation work, and maintains the highest translation and interpretation quality through continuous improvement and learning
* May require travel to Japan as well as evening work in Pacific Time Zone
* Up to 10% domestic and international travel. Passport required.

SUMMARY OF REQUIREMENTS

* Seven plus years of experience translating documents of a business and/or technical nature (J/E and E/J)
* Seven plus years of experience providing accurate and fluid consecutive interpretation in a professional environment in face-to-face meetings and video conferences (J/E and E/J)
* Solid understanding of technical translation and engineering concepts through hardware and the development environment
* Experience working within cross-functional teams with project management frameworks and tools
* Native-level written and verbal fluency in English and Japanese, including grammar, spelling, punctuation, keigo, jargon, slang, and idioms
* Ability to adjust content and communication styles between executive and working-level audiences
* Detailed-oriented mindset, able to identify mistakes and implement process improvements to prevent repeated errors
* Demonstrates expertise using or willingness to learn computer-assisted translation tools and processes
* Understands Japanese/US English localization issues and adjusts content and communication accordingly
* Experience using various document publishing software, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio); Adobe Acrobat
* Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision to produce high quality results in a fast-paced, highly-confidential environment with fluctuating priorities and deadlines
* knowledge of or have worked in a development environment
* Familiarity with Nintendo IP, video game industry, and/or consumer electronics knowledge preferred
* Project management tools such as Confluence and JIRA preferred
* Undergraduate degree or formal translation education/training
* Technical degree in engineering or computer science is a plus.
* Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N1 certification or English Language Proficiency Test required or equivalent proficiency
