About Amazon

Job Description

Every year, millions of customers rely on Amazon's popular community features, Customer Reviews and Ask, to help them make product decisions. These experiences are centered on product pages, and are always in the context of a specific product.

We are a new product team within Amazon focused on helping our customers discover and share interest-based suggestions, questions, and knowledge around the most popular hobbies and interests that our customers are already fueling with purchases from Amazon. Our focus is customer engagement, with the ultimate goal of building a daily habit on Amazon for younger, socially-minded customers.

The team moves quickly, before we have all the answers, and we celebrate our failures and learnings as hard as we celebrate our successes. We believe in our mission to ignite the interest-based communities we see developing in the Customer Reviews and Ask an Owner experiences. We believe that customer-generated content is as compelling as, and often more scalable than, highly curated content. We will tune our user experiences and algorithms over and over until we are successful. If you like to move fast and innovate on behalf of our customers in an emerging, potentially game-changing space for Amazon and build highly scalable distributed systems, we would love to hear from you!

The Senior Technical Program Manager role requires that you work closely with development and product management teams to scope and deliver large, complex V1 beta releases, and rapidly iterate to test into the winning formula that can be scaled worldwide. Responsibilities include collection of business and systems requirements, driving project schedules from design to release, communicating to stakeholders and top level executives, and managing the production launch. You will lead and coordinate design/implementation efforts between internal teams to develop bold solutions that have not been tried on Amazon before. You will be expected to make appropriate tradeoffs to optimize time-to-market, clearly communicate goals, roles, responsibilities, and desired outcomes to internal cross-functional and remote project teams.

The right candidate will possess a strong program management background, with demonstrated experience leading medium to large projects, and a well-rounded technical background in current back-end and mobile technologies. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. This means you are not only able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in and get the job done. As a TPM, you will anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints. An ability to take large, complex projects and break them down into manageable pieces, develop functional specifications, then deliver them in a successful and timely manner is expected. You also will have excellent writing and executive communication skills such that you can lead executive briefings in person or over email with little oversight. Maturity, high judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytical talent and leadership are essential to success in this role.
