Sr. Systems Engineer - Office 365 SME

With direction from senior IT leadership and using independent judgment and discretion, this position is centric around Data File migration.

REPORTING STRUCTURE & WORK SETTING

This position typically performs work at the central headquarters and normally reports to the Director of IT Operations or another leader with centralized information technology operational responsibility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Specific tasks, responsibilities or competencies may be documented in the incumbent's performance objectives as outlined by the incumbent's immediate supervisor or manager.

1. With significant latitude for independent judgment and discretion, this position performs complex design, implementation and maintenance activities for the Windows server environment, Exchange 2003 messaging infrastructure, Active Directory, patch management, system monitoring and 3rd tier support for local and remote sites.

2. Serves as a technical lead for project implementations, driving technical site escalations to conclusion and providing a leadership example to junior staff members.

3. Executes enterprise data backup solution and disaster recovery testing to ensure a recoverable server, application, web and email environment.

4. Performs system sizing, cost gathering, system purchasing, coordination of physical installation, OS installation and application configuration.

5. Creates, monitors and maintains an enterprise virus, anti-SPAM and anti-spyware management solution.

6. Troubleshoots and resolves issues related to networking, DNS, WINS, DHCP, SMTP, web and application servers.

7. Ensures corporate messaging systems including Microsoft Exchange, OWA and Goodlink maintain high availability and functionality.

8. Implements and support WSUS, Group Policies, RIS and AD software deployment.

9. Migrates legacy applications to upgraded hardware platforms and operating systems.

10. Plans, implements, and administers SAN/NAS infrastructure.

11. Performs root cause analysis for service interruption recovery; create preventative measures and present to management.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

EDUCATION:

Extensive knowledge of business systems software design and engineering as normally obtained through the completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a closely related field. A MCSE and/or CCNA are preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE OR RELATED EXPERIENCE:

The knowledge, skill and ability to design, coordinate, implement and maintain the corporate server infrastructure as described as normally obtained through a minimum of 5 years progressively responsible, hands-on experience with Windows server platforms, including advanced knowledge of Active Directory and Exchange, enterprise storage and disaster recovery. In-depth experience managing an enterprise server infrastructure in a multi site, multi domain environment supporting Active Directory and Exchange including AD and Exchange consolidation, trust relationships, OU design and GPO administration is also required.

Experience leading and guiding less experienced staff in technical projects as described above is preferred. This entails the ability to provide guidance on software systems design.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Incumbents must have extensive working knowledge of systems programming and systems analysis methodologies, procedures, design and implementation. Good experience in research and analysis and implementation are essential.

A high level and in-depth knowledge of Windows server platforms, Active Directory and Exchange, enterprise storage and disaster recovery is required. Knowledge and ability with VMWare, Network Appliance, Citrix, SQL server administration, Cisco Call Manager are strongly preferred.

Proven ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously with associated deadlines is required. Good project management skills as well as written and verbal communication skills are necessary essential to effectively act in a technical lead role and serve as a reference and central point for technical issues across groups and business systems as described.

Strong technical skills and the ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems as described above are required. Independent discretion and initiative is required to the extent that incumbents can perform work of a complex nature with minimal supervision.

Good communications and interpersonal skills are required to act as a reference and central point for technical issues across business units and product groups. The ability to interact effectively with team members and end users is required. A strong customer service orientation is essential.

EQUIPMENT:

A high level of proficiency with business and communications software (preferably Word, Excel, PowerPoint, common Windows operating systems, and Outlook) is required.

A strong, hands-on technical knowledge and ability with Windows server platforms, Active Directory and Exchange are required.

A high level of skill in the latest areas of new technology and software systems development are required. Must be proficient in IBM based personal computer hardware, software operating systems, networking and telephony.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS & CONDITIONS

Moderate overnight travel is required to provide oversight and assistance for off-site projects. Length and frequency of travel is determined by business needs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS & DEMANDS

Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & DEMANDS

Work requires normal range of hearing and eyesight. Incumbent must be able to use a telephone or headset equipment and operate a keyboard and other office equipment. The ability to perform work at a computer terminal for 6-8 hours a day and function in an environment with constant interruptions is required. At times, incumbents are subject to sitting for prolonged periods. Infrequently, incumbent must be able to lift and move material weighing up to 20 lbs. Incumbent may experience elevated levels of stress during periods of increased activity and with work entailing multiple deadlines.
