Duties: National Railroad Passenger Corporation has an opening for a Senior Principal Applications Systems Engineer, Analytics in Washington, DC. Responsible for the analysis, design, development, integration, enhancement, deployment and support for descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive capabilities. Evaluate, guide and implement solutions to discover, optimize and deploy predictive models and prescriptive solutions by analyzing Big Data sources to improve business performance and mitigate risk. Analyze and design quality technical solutions and analytics maturity toward predictive and prescriptive goals, which must include solutions aligned with business and IT strategies and in compliance with the organization's architectural standards. Provide oversight and enhancement of Amtrak's analytics and data platforms and applications. Evaluate existing applications and platforms, and provide recommendations for system enhancements by conducting gap analysis, identifying feasible alternative solutions and assisting in the scope of modifications. Act as a thought leader in the area of analytics tools and methodologies, making recommendations to supplement and improve the analytics platform. Drive innovation in analytics by conducting research and implementing proof-of-concepts to assess new capabilities leveraging Cloud Analytics. Work on major projects providing subject matter expertise and technical direction. Work closely with business stakeholders and team members to understand the business requirements. Organize and document technical requirements, create technical design specifications and assist in sizing technical requirements. Design, document and implement technology best practices, guidelines and repeatable processes. Develop reports and presentations for senior management, as needed.

Requirements: Employer will accept Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or related technical field, followed by eight years of progressive, post-baccalaureate work experience in job offered or eight years of progressive, post-baccalaureate work experience in a related occupation. Position requires experience with the following: Big Data; Data visualization and reporting; Working with technical architects and teams to identify, architect and implement analytics and data solutions in support of business transformation; RDBMS, including SQL Server, Oracle; Hadoop Ecosystem, including HDFS, Hadoop MapReduce, HBase, Hive, Pig, Sqoop, Flume, Zookeeper, Cloudera CDH-4, Kerberos; Programming languages, including Java, SQL, Python; Operating Systems, including Linux, Unix, Windows Family; Amazon AWS, Google Cloud Platform, and Restful API, ETL Tools; and, Protocol knowledge, including TCP/IP.
