Job Description SummaryThe Sr. Network Engineer will design, implementation and operational support of the unifying infrastructure projects utilizing the breadth of Cisco Networked devices including Routers, Switches, Firewalls, Intrusion Detection and Prevention, Anti-Spam and Anti-Virus services. Strong knowledge of IPv6. Perform Project Management functions to include the development of a project plan in compliance with the customer's SDLCM. Work to collect requirements from the diverse customer base, perform the appropriate analysis, develop the strategic roadmap, and all associated documentation. Deploy network equipment such as Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls plus troubleshoot and deploy VOIP/SIP Telephony network devices.Responsibilities: •Provide a high level of technical understanding for problem solving and troubleshooting•Interact with Hardware and Software vendors to address issues when necessary•Use escalation standards and personal judgment to ensure timely resolution of problems•Provide training and support to employees when necessary•Accept and resolve escalated trouble tickets from Service Desk•Manage large (time-sensitive) projects•Work afternoon shift with On-Call shift rotations with other members of the department•Deployment and Troubleshooting of network equipment such as Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, WLC's, ISE, and Cisco Prime•Deployment and Troubleshooting of Wireless, VOIP/SIP, and VTC•Provide a high level of technical understanding for problem solving and troubleshooting•Interact with Hardware and Software vendors to address issues when necessary•Use escalation standards and personal judgment to ensure timely resolution of problems•Provide training and support to employees when necessary•Accept and resolve escalated trouble tickets from Service Desk•Manage large (time-sensitive) projects•Generate Build of Materials The Ideal Candidate will possess the Following Additional Education and Experience:•Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Network Engineering, Telecommunications, or Computer Science required, equivalent years of experience will be considered in lieu of degree•At least five (5) to seven (7) years' experience working in the communications/cable/IT industry required•CCIE preferred, CCNP required•Experience with Cisco hardware and software (Cisco Switches, Routers, IOS) (6500's, 4500's, 2960's, 3850's, Nexus 7000's, ASA's, WLC's, ISE)•Experience with Windows, Windows Server, Linux and Unix (Solaris) OS•Understanding of TCP/IP, VLANS and routing protocols(EIGRP, OSPF, BGP)•Experience with Cisco Wireless, ISE, VPNs, VOIP, and Video Networks•Understanding of IP services (DHCP, TFTP and DNS)•Organizational Skills (ability to organize large amounts of data in a logical manner)•Excellent Troubleshooting Skills and usage of tools such as ping, telnet and trace route•Strong communication skills are required•Excellent documentation skills are required•Ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical executives and managers•Competent administrator of mixed-technology solutions•Act as part of a structured operations team in support of resolving technical issues•Availability to troubleshoot and resolve issues during off-work hours and/or extended hours when outages or projects requiredPhysical Requirements:•Work is performed in a fast-paced Information Technology environment•Ability to lift or transport items weighing up to 40 lbs.Additional Requirements as per contract/client:•Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust - Moderate Risk security clearance•GC Holder / US Citizens only

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Provide support services in conjunction with the existing NMFS Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) infrastructure, which includes approximately 33 sites. LAN and WAN topography consists of Cisco products.- Install, configure, maintain, and support equipment and cables of the NMFS LAN and WAN.- Provide routine and long-term management and maintenance of existing, new or replacement software and equipment.- Support existing Cisco Firewall appliances as well as Site-to-Site and Remote Access VPNs.- Develop, institute, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in the areas of Network support and support service functions used by the contractor in the ongoing support tasks, throughout the performance period.- Actively participate in the change management process by participating in the Change Control Boards by reviewing system change requests and conduct impact assessments.- Work closely with the NOAA Network Operations Center (NOC) with regard to layer 3 issues and coordinate any changes they may have that will affect the NMFS network.- Prepare weekly and monthly network bandwidth utilization and performance reports.- Proactively monitor LAN and WAN for performance issues and make appropriate recommendations to management.- Manage the network infrastructure to support VTC services: provide endpoint support using TMS.Minimum Requirements:- Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience.- Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.- Demonstrates good judgement in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.- Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise.
