AWS Snowball and Snowball Edge are a highly secure, petabyte-scale data transport and edge computing product that is used to collect and process up to petabytes of data on customer premises and in remote locations. Our appliances are highly secure, ruggedized, shippable devices that are able to survive rough handing, from commercial shipping to airdrops, they have their own weather proof shipping container with onboard sensors and an integrated display to make it easy for customers to adopt and use. The full solution is made up of a wide set of technologies covering the full-stack, including client software (Windows, Mac, and Linux), a device operating system, and device-based software delivering both on-device and in-cloud AWS services. Our goal is to make hybrid-edge computing and petabyte scale data movement simple, inexpensive, secure, ubiquitous, and fast.
