Job Description

Job Summary:

As Senior Manager IT for End User Engineering Windows Platform you will be responsible to lead a team of Engineers working on Solutions for client devices like Laptops, Desktops, Workplace and Client Device Management Solutions. In addition you will be responsible to ensure proper delivery from a Manage Service for Windows Client Devices under Global Infrastructure Services area. In Global Engineering, our teams often span time zones across the world and it is the Engineering manager's job to keep the team focused on a common mission statement of delivering on Integrated Solutions that meet the business needs.

As an Engineering Manager, you will work closely with Integrated Service Owners, Service Owners, Component Owners, Enterprise Architects, IT Operations, IT Partners and other stakeholders to help articulate the Engineering position in solving complex business problems before and during project implementation.

You will be a key member in developing and institutionalizing metrics that help Engineering to meet cost, delivery, quality, reliability and resiliency objectives. You manage multiple initiatives with multiple engineers potentially across multiple time zones in order to achieve the organizational objectives.

The position reports to the Head of End User Engineering and is a member of the Global Engineering Management Team. The position is located in South San Francisco.

Key Responsibilities:

* Ensure fit-for-purpose design and implementation of the infrastructure solutions and components within respective area of responsibility


* Lead by example, care for the team, and establish credibility with the holistic quality of the team's technical delivery


* Manage global teams spread across different geographic regions/sites, where applicable.


* Ensure that the team is able to function efficiently in a global virtual team environment with Engineers in other sites and solution areas


* Support the organization in the retention and career development of internal staff


* Provide coaching and feedback to employees and contributes to employee development by fostering continuous learning through education, exposure and experience


* Help the employees identify and establish individual development plans that match their career aspirations


* Follow HR guidelines in setting and managing objectives for employees and ensuring regular and ongoing performance dialog with the employees


* Ensure Engineering output from the Solution Area meets the business goals while staying aligned with the Architecture Framework


* Act as an Engineering spokesperson and influences key stakeholders, at multiple levels in the IT and Business organizations


* Ensure decision-making in his/her area of responsibility follows Roche's decision making best practices


* Ensure organization's RACI matrices are followed in his/her area of responsibility


* Innovate with focus on continuous improvement of the existing capabilities in the Solution Area, while also seeking opportunities for new capabilities that lead to disruptive innovation.


* Ensure compliance to departmental and company defined processes, procedures and standards including Quality and Finance


* Focus on customer intimacy by delivering solutions that match the needs of our IT Partners and Customers, while also ensuring sufficient focus on product innovation and operational efficiency


* Stay abreast of operational challenges, trends, and issues, so that he/she can ensure the availability of Engineering staff to provide incident and problem management support, as needed.


* Follow clearly defined demand management process for Engineering resource allocation, so that Engineering is best positioned to meet prioritized, planned and unplanned business needs as they arise



Qualifications/Requirements:

* Bachelor degree in informatics or equivalent work experience


* 8+ years of experience in the relevant areas for the team with at least 3-5 years of that experience in managing teams


* Strong decision-making and organizational skills


* Ability to lead and motivate teams


* Effective coaching and mentoring skills


* Leading teams while continuing to provide strategic guidance on complex projects in area of responsibilities


* Strong customer orientation and delivery focus


* Demonstrated customer engagement and presentation skills with the ability to communicate across all levels (senior and/or large audiences)


* Effective interpersonal skills


* Ability to function independently with little supervision


* Excellent problem-solving skills


* Consistently strong oral and written communication skills


* Proven project and time management skills


* Some travel and availability outside standard office hours required to meet business demands, as needed
