We are building a platform from the ground up that will impact the entire Zendesk product suite. We have a rich set of experiences in our team - building highly trafficked distributed systems on the cloud, working with the latest front-end technologies to embedded systems. Many from our team also have had experience building successful startups. We believe in the growth mindset, and that we all have something to learn from each other. We are looking for an experienced backend engineer (with a focus on DevOps) to join us to own and build the automation portion of our platform. Your knowledge and experience with modern automation tools will be critical as you will be the first engineer and have the ability to define what Operations looks like. What you get to do: - Be a part of a larger team that is building a Product / Platform from the ground up that will contribute to the entire Zendesk product suite - Participate in diverse projects and collaborate with multiple engineering teams.Work alongside teammates in San Francisco and Melbourne - Help increase our observability and reliability You should have some of these skills: - Strong command of a programming language - Commitment to code ownership. You don't believe in throwing code over the wall and instead believe in taking ownership throughout the life of a project - Self-driven, detail and data oriented. You keep things moving while delivering meaningful work - Delivered enterprise grade software and seen some of the challenges presented by working at a global scale - Great communication skills. Extremely important since you're the first engineer with devops focus in the team; the team rely on you to lead many operational initiatives which requires clear communication with team members and stakeholders - Experience working/operating distributed databases/technologies: DynamoDB, Cassandra, Riak, Kafka, Redis etc. - Experience with monitoring and metrics collection platforms. We use Datadog, but prior experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Graphite, StatsD, etc. are all great. Nice to have: - You have experience working with Go/Python - Experience with automation (Terraform, Chef, Puppet, CloudFormation), management of Linux systems (Ubuntu, CentOS, CoreOS), deploying, monitoring, and supporting cloud-based (AWS) applications in Kubernetes -Continuous Integration experience with tools such as Travis CI, Circle CI, Jenkins, etc -Strong Unix command-line fluency. You can work with these in your sleep: awk, grep, strace, netstat, /proc, etc.
