Job Description

University Information Services (UIS) provides technical services and enterprise applications to the University of Colorado campuses and the Office of the President. UIS is committed to excellence in customer service and technical expertise. Through the development of enterprise applications, UIS supports the University as a whole with systems used by students, faculty, human resources employees, finance employees, and others.

The Senior Data Warehouse Engineer will support the university's quickly growing needs and demands to make data driven decisions, utilizing an enterprise data warehouse, data integrations, analytics, and business intelligence initiatives. This position will be a key member of the university's ETL team and will serve as a Data Warehouse subject matter expert utilizing best practices in the industry. This role requires collaboration with leaders, developers and analysts from the Procurement Services Center, Campus Solutions, Finance, Human Resources, Advancement, and Grants and Research departments from all four campuses. The Senior Data Warehouse Engineer will also collaborate with UIS departments such as database administrators, system admins, middleware, infrastructure, production services, enterprise data architects, developers, and quality assurance testers to ensure deliverables and system needs are being met. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Data and Business Intelligence and is exempt from the State of Colorado Classified Staff system

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

* ETL development (which includes unit testing), functional testing, documentation creation and production support with data sources such as CU's PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, Finance, HCM, InfoEd, Advance and SalesForce CRM systems, among others
* Development tools include IBM DataStage, Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), and SAS, Perl, Groovy, and Kornshell scripts
* Data Modeling and data profiling, creating Star schema logical and physical models for an Oracle environment
* Leading, advising, and coaching team members on data warehouse concepts and best practices
* Serve as co-technical lead with autonomy to make technical decisions on projects and smaller initiatives
* Identifying task level of effort and duration estimates, assisting with project plan creation, and leading the technical coordination efforts
* Administering and tuning the university's installation of IBM DataStage
* Continuing education and professional development including attending trainings and conferences and self-directed learning

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

To be successful in this position, candidates will need the following:

* Knowledge of ETL Architecture and IBM Data Stage
* Knowledge of Data Modeling for Oracle
* Knowledge of SDLC best practices
* Ability to utilize Oracle analytic functions and techniques
* Ability to utilize and understand best practices in regards to SDLC and data warehousing
* Ability to work on multiple work efforts at once, playing multiple roles
* Ability to manage and develop the team's technical skills
* Strong problem solving skills and effective communication, along with the ability to work independently, as well as part of a cross-functional team

The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $110,000.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education. A combination of education, technology training and industry certifications, and related experience may substitute for the degree on a year for year basis.
* Five (5) years of experience to include any of the following:
* IBM DataStage
* SAS (Software as a Service)
* Working in a Linux environment and with shell scripting (Perl/Korn)
* Experience with Kimball methodologies including star schema design, and accumulating and periodic snapshots, creating logical and physical data models with applicable indexes
* SQL, including familiarly with Oracle analytic functions and techniques for tuning large-volume queries
* Experience with SDLC best practices as they relate to data warehousing
* Technical Lead experience managing a development team responsible for the design, development and implementation of highly complex programs, scripts, data objects resulting in high quality and performance

Preferred Qualifications:

* Relevant work experience for a college or university
* Knowledge of Java and PL/SQL programing
* Experience with PeopleSoft data models including Campus Solutions, Finance and/or HCM version 9.0 or higher
* Experience as an administrator of an ETL or middleware tool (DataStage, ODI, Informatica, OSB, Etc.)
* Experience on one or more projects to implement an ETL or information management tool
