The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Software Engineer to develop creative solutions and make meaningful contributions to support Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Mission System Development.

We are seeking a motivated and creative software engineer to help us develop systems architectures and designs to engage some of the country's most important national security challenges. We are pushing the boundaries of data capture, correlation, exploitation, and dissemination all in real-time. Your contributions will help transform data into the knowledge that will enable decision-makers to make informed choices in defense of the nation. You will join a large (50 ) hardworking team in an open and inclusive environment that values intellectual curiosity, innovation and creativity.

As a Software Engineer you will:

* Primarily develop software in support of existing and new capabilities for ISR Mission Systems. Assist with algorithm development, technical investigations, system analysis, execution, performance analysis, planning, and verification and validation activities. Work includes processing of sensor signals from various imaging systems (EO/IR, Radar, WAMI), development of software interfaces to sensor systems, development of data management software, support distributed processing, development of graphical user interfaces (native and web-based), and development and automation of software testing.
* Document technical contributions in internal memoranda/reports and conference/journal papers as well as present findings and recommendations both internally and externally.
* Interact with sponsors, contractors, and APL program and technical staff.

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you:

* Completed a BS degree in engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, economics or related field.
* Have one to five years relevant experience in a related technical field.
* Communicate effectively
* Work well under pressure and with tight deadlines.
* Are comfortable developing software in a Linux environment.
* Demonstrate proficiency in one or more of the following languages: C , Java, and JavaScript/TypeScript.
* Are willing to travel supporting meetings and work at contractor and government facilities required. Additional travel to system field testing sites up to many weeks in duration may be required.
* Possess the ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you:

* Completed an MS in engineering, physics, or related field and five or more years of relevant experience working with ISR sensor systems.
* Have civilian and/or military experience with ISR systems, including field testing and deployment of ISR systems.
* Demonstrate an aptitude for applying computer programming to solve problems in image/video processing, signal processing, or physics domains.
* Are familiar with OpenGL, 3-D visualization, GIS technologies, UNIX IPC, React, Redux, Node, Bootstrap, and SASS.
* Possess a current TS clearance or current Secret clearance with an ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance.
