Job Description

Microsoft Cloud Infrastructure and Operations (CO+I) is the team behind one of the world's largest cloud infrastructures responsible for powering all Microsoft products and services including Azure and O365.

We are looking for passionate, high energy engineering leader to help achieve our mission. Our focus is on smart growth, high efficiency, and delivering a trusted experience to our customers and partners worldwide.

If you are comfortable working in a start-up/v1 effort, enjoy incrementally marching towards a well-defined long-term architecture, and are motivated by solving hard business process problems with technology then this could be the position for you.

Knowledge, experience and skills:

* BS degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
* 10+ years of software development experience and proficiency in one or more popular languages and platforms, including C/C++, C#, Java, Javascript, SQL, Ruby, Python
* 5+ years of leading an engineering team
* Proven track record of design and technical accomplishment
* Knowledge of various techniques to solve business problems at scale
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Preferred, not required:

* MS degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
* Experience with cloud-based services is a plus (Azure or AWS)
* Machine learning or image recognition background is a great plus
* Expertise in middle tier/backend technologies such as .NET, relational and/or non-relational (NoSQL) databases, web services, ORM, and RESTful concepts
* Data-driven mind-set. Ability to mine data and persuade your team using effective analysis

CO+I is a young organization within Microsoft, and as such, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers, envisioning, architecting, designing, establishing and ensuring compliance to engineering standards - design, coding, testing, and deploying. As a people manager you will be responsible for developing career growth plans, mentor and manage the careers of your engineers. You will also need to present and actively participate in business and people development related Senior leadership meetings. You will work closely with your customers in driving the vision and developing roadmaps. Being a foundational layer of Microsoft means that your leadership and individual work will have a broad impact across the entire company.

As an engineering leader you will need to learn fast and contribute to both the backend and frontend. The service is being developed in a "next generation" solution with a frontend written in Angular and a backend written in C#, among other technologies. We leverage Azure components including web services, Azure SQL, Queues, App Insights, DocumentDB (NoSQL), and Azure Functions. We have a variety of synchronous and asynchronous systems working together to support security at hundreds of datacenters around the world. We will own this service from the ground-up. We have several other interesting projects on the horizon focusing on improvements to datacenter physical security leveraging RFID, computer vision, feature detection, and pattern matching in large data sets.
