Tumblr provides the unique opportunity of working as a Start up engineer inside an established technology giant in New York City.

We build and manage platforms for petabytes of data, Tens of thousands of events per second streaming data, and provides machine learning platforms for forecasting, user behavior projections with machine learning. We are looking for interns to take on well defined, self contained problems and contribute in this space, this summer. Interns are individual contributors to the organization. Through compelling data mining, machining learning, and visualization algorithms, they gain knowledge and make decisions from data, and help our company to build better and more secure platforms products. Working alongside top engineers across Oath, the internships will be based in New York City.

We have exciting job openings for Summer Interns who are ready to make a significant impact - specifically in the back end engineering platforms, products and services for Tumblr's Engineering platforms. On a typical day, the interns would:

* Design, develop, code and test software systems or applications for software enhancements and new products; revise and refine as required
* Participate in agile development of project timelines, implementation design specifications, system flow diagrams, documentation, testing and ongoing support of systems

Qualifications:

* Actively enrolled in a BS, MS, or PhD Program in Computer Science or related major, and strong record of academic achievement
* Knowledge of software engineering processes, tools (e.g.: programming proficiency in a language, preferably Java, C/C++, methods, test development, support, algorithms and data structure
* Familiarity with object-oriented programming concepts, large-scale software architecture, networking and distributed systems, and UNIX/Linux environments Experience in one or many of the following is a plus:
* Familiarity with Java, PHP, Python
* Familiarity with Machine Learning algorithms and technologies.
* Experience building or maintaining databases (MySQL, Hive, etc.)
* Experience building or maintaining Big data & streaming systems (Hadoop, HDFS, Kafka, etc.)
* Cross-platform coding
* Security
* Large-scale, large-user base website development experience
* Data mining, machine learning, AI, statistics, information retrieval, linguistic analysis
* Strong mathematical background
