* BS degree in Computer Science, Math, Physics, or technical field (or equivalent)
* A demonstrable understanding of software development and testing concepts.
* 5+ years of hands-on software development & testing experience with strong coding skills in C#/ C++/ Java/ Python
* Experience in debugging and maintaining code in C#/ C++/ Java/ Python
* 2+ years of experience with relational database systems such as SQL Server or equivalent technologies
* Self-driven and able to work independently or with a team to develop solutions for a broad range of problems

Any of the following are pluses:

* Experience with NoSQL technologies such as Azure CosmosDB, MongoDB, bonus if used for analytical purposes
* Experience with the Apache (or other) big data stack such as Hadoop, HBase, Spark, Storm, Hive, or Mahout
* Experience in Python/R using packages such as NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, dplyr, ggplot2, etc.
* Experience wrangling and doing analysis on large data sets

The engineer is responsible to own & drive distributed systems architecture & design in BIG DATA space while implementing the solution in many cases for the team. He/she explores, evaluates and identifies new and interesting technologies in DATA space and guide the team in that direction to solve business problems. The person will be working on transforming data into usable & meaningful form to deliver various types of core data assets. Skills in C#/ Java, map-reducer based technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Azure Big Data technologies, Kafka, Storm etc.) and scalable & schema-less databases to help tie all of this together are important. One of the key aspects to success in this role is successfully partnering with various engineering, data science and data integration teams across Microsoft.
