Azure Data Group (DG) with its 8+ billion-dollar business is one of the key revenue generators at Microsoft. The usage spans from developers, SMBs to huge enterprises taking mission-critical dependencies on our platform for a range of workloads from super-fast OLTP workloads & advanced DW scenarios to analytics, search and non-relational options.

Working with the full range of customers and products, Data Migration team's focus is to enable customers to migrate to the Azure Data platform as well as our on-premises offerings to cross the next billion-dollar mark. The team provides solutions in the form of migration tools, Azure service and also leverages solution providers and ISVs to assist customers in making the migration to modern offerings such SQL Server, Azure SQL Database and Data Warehouse, Azure Database for MySQL and PostgreSQL. We are charged with highlighting technology synergy across our tools and services by building turnkey solutions for customer success.

We are looking for a highly motivated engineer with strong coding and design skills to join our growing team. As part of this role you will work on a suite of tools that our team is building, including SQL Server Migration Assistant to enable seamless and frictionless transition to modern data platform on Azure and on-premises. You will have opportunities to work with Microsoft data platform solutions such as SQL Server, Azure SQL Database; OSS database engines such as MySQL, PostgreSQL and competitive platforms such as Oracle, DB2, Sybase/SAP ASE to enable migrations to Microsoft platform. We partner with bunch of other groups, including Microsoft Research and have multiple integration projects, so be prepared to learn a lot of new stuff beyond the scope of just data migrations!

B.Sc. in Computer Science (or equivalent), Masters/PhD preferred and 2+ years of relevant experience

* Software architecture and design skills
* C++/C# coding skills are must, JavaScript and TypeScript is a plus
* Expertise in database technologies and experience with broad spectrum of database platforms (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, etc.) is a huge plus
* Experience in building compilers and/or transpilers is a huge plus.
* Ability to work in an agile environment, learning and adapting quickly.
* Excellent communication and motivation skills.

To apply for this role, you should possess design and coding skills. Experience with databases, data analytics, and ability to translate high-level technical requirements through all the levels of the software stack is preferred. Experience in open source technology stack (Node.js, MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL) is a huge plus. We strongly believe that a team is greater than the sum of its parts. Proven record of accomplishment and ability to work in an agile team of highly motivated and passionate engineers is key to this role.
