Job Description

The Smart Home organization is looking for an experienced software development manager with an interest in leading the Spoken Language Understanding (SLU) team and building new voice experiences for customers to use with Alexa and smart devices in their homes.

As the leader of the Smart Home SLU group, you would hire and develop a hybrid team of engineers and scientists and own the strategy and roadmap for the team. We blend a variety of disciplines, such as rule-based authoring (FSTs, tokenizers) and statistical/ML modeling, to turn new Smart Home feature concepts into rich-voice experiences for customers.

In addition to building new voice features, you will be part of the Smart Home Expansion Services (SHXS) organization and work along side managers, developers, researchers who are developing mechanisms to scale Alexa and Smart Home to customers around the world. You will work with senior leaders, principal engineers and AI specialists to define the roadmap for voice model authoring and improvements.

Major Responsibilities:

* Define the strategy and roadmap for your team
* Hire and develop the industry's best talent to build a strong and well-balanced team
* Build software that easily extends to meet the high growth of Amazon's business and capabilities
* Analyze and extract relevant information from large amounts of Amazon's historical business data to help automate and optimize key features and processes.
* Work closely with other teams across Alexa and AWS to deliver platform features that require cross-team leadership.
* Reduce friction in voice experiences to deliver the best voice interactions with Alexa and smart home devices
