Amazon's Intelligent Cloud Control group is looking for a Manager of Software Development to lead the development of highly resilient frameworks for Amazon retail's use of AWS. Your challenge will be to lead a team of engineers to deliver automated solutions to prove at any time that the Amazon retail business is ready to serve our customers regardless of Internet weather, hardware faults, software defects and situations as yet unimagined.

As part of the Consumer Cloud Enablement business, our mission is to build the next generation of cloud platform that will revolutionize the way people engage with the internet. We own an Intelligent Cloud Control System that enables organizations in the Amazon Consumer Business (Retail, Amazon Video, Kindle, Amazon Subsidiaries and more) to accelerate innovation in the Cloud. Over the next 3 years Amazon businesses will migrate 100,000s of services to AWS. We need to give them the tools to do so safely, efficiently, and in a highly-available manner.

As a software development manager, you will define the products used to improve resiliency of services, leveraging statistical methods, pattern identification and machine learning. You and your group will begin by delivering solutions that protect Amazon's services by developing the platform to automate the creation and observation of anomalous conditions in system metrics and track those services' response. This information will be crucial to building our intelligent system to learn and prevent software issues from becoming customer impacting incidents. Your team will operate autonomously as part of an organization based in New York; you will be work closely with development teams and executives in Seattle and Europe.

As the ideal candidate you will be experienced in managing a multi-discipline organization. You will have a proven track record of shipping complex software solutions, diving deep into technical challenges to guide your team and have a proven track record of developing the careers of your reports. You will also be a strong communicator and will have proven abilities in managing through ambiguous situations.

Specific responsibilities include the following:

* Hire and Develop a group of engineers into a highly performing engineering organization.
* Define and drive your long term product strategy based on your relationships with key customers and technology partners.
* Deliver the software platform and scalable process to prove software resilience to a wide variety of issues, driving improvements to Amazon's availability to 99.999%
* Drive DevOps and operational excellence through automation using AWS.
