The Smart Home organization within Amazon focuses on building devices and software to create a smart home eco system centered around Alexa. The Dash Replenishment Services (DRS) team within the Smart Home organization focuses on building devices and software that power the Smart Home where replenishment of the consumables in the devices is auto-managed on behalf of the customers. We build technologies with a futuristic vision where shopping for everyday essentials disappears from the consumers' minds with our systems auto-managing this experience.

Our solutions, be it the devices we envision and create or the software and features we innovate, are all centered around Alexa and builds upon the eco system of technologies surrounding Alexa and Alexa Connect Kit (ACK). For customers, smart devices that drive automatic replenishment deliver on the expectation of simplicity and convenience - allowing them to seamlessly interact with the world around them by ensuring that they never run out of everyday essentials. Amazon's ability to manage household and office inventory levels of consumable items enables us to provide contextually relevant and timely information to customers via voice and other channels ("You're running low on ink for your HP Printer. Would you like me to order more?") to then eliminating the need for any communication and automatically replenishing the right items at the right time with no further cognitive load on the part of the customer.

We're seeking a senior engineering leader to lead a few of our key initiatives in the Dash Replenishment Platform as a Software Development Manager (SDM). As an SDM on the team, you will be responsible for providing thought leadership, architecture oversight and overseeing software development to deliver large projects end-to-end all the way through Alexa voice commands from the customer coupled with interactions from the mobile/desktop applications. Responsibilities include managing a highly senior engineering team, partnering with business stakeholders to drive meaningful business value while growing the talent in the organization, guide the team through complex architectural and design choices, partnering with other service owners to build a coherent end to end solution and delivering on the product from as the ultimate engineering owner. You will lead and coordinate design/implementation efforts between internal teams and outside merchants and vendors to develop optimal solutions. You will be expected to make appropriate tradeoffs to optimize time-to-market, clearly communicate goals, roles, responsibilities, and desired outcomes to internal cross-functional and remote project teams.

The right candidate will have grown from being a really good software engineer into a respected engineering leader, will have demonstrated experience leading large multi-million dollar projects/initiatives, and will have a well-rounded technical background in current web and mobile technologies. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. This means you are not only able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in and get the job done. As an experienced SDM, you will anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints. An ability to take large, complex projects, break them down into manageable pieces, develop a solid execution plan and then deliver them in a timely manner is essential to success in the role.
