Job Description

Are you passionate about books and authors? Do you get excited by working in a high-growth, innovative, and fast-paced environment? Amazon Publishing is ceaselessly innovating on the publishing and reading experience. We are changing the way people read and are one of the most innovative and fastest growing businesses at Amazon.

Our team has a simple goal: author happiness. We strive for this by innovating and failing fast. We aren't shy about trying out new technologies and we reward risk and experimentation. We insist on highest standards in operations, and we put heavy emphasis on career development and work/life balance.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a high degree of technical ownership and be a passionate builder of talent and teams. You must insist on the highest standards for quality, maintainability, performance and hiring. You will draw from your deep technical experience to hire and grow engineers, provide leadership on complex technical issues, institute best practices, and own technical architecture and project delivery. You will conduct deep-dive exercises and drive technical discussions to identify the best solutions for development. You know how to run an efficient and lean operation, and excel at using metrics, monitoring and alarming to improve the operational performance of the team.

Come help our team innovate in one of the world's oldest industries: books.

As an SDM, you are empowered to:

* Own vision, strategy planning, prioritization, driving architectural decisions, and end-to-end project delivery.
* Identify, assess and mitigate risks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs balancing the business needs versus constraints.
* Create, maintain and disseminate project information to stakeholders.
* Manage careers of talented engineers, including making great hiring decisions, setting goals, providing feedback and managing performance.
