Job Description

The Amazon Browse Classification team is seeking an experienced Software Development Manager for developing classification of all products into the Amazon Taxonomy. You will lead a team comprised of Applied Scientists and Software Engineers to build models and deliver them into production. Your efforts will build a robust ensemble of ML techniques that can drive classification of products with a high precision and scale to new marketplaces and languages.

This role requires leading Scientists experimenting with cutting edge machine learning, natural language processing and artificial intelligence to solve real world problems at scale, and developing systems to improve and streamline ML model development. Imagine leading research inside of an Amazon team that is always looking to deploy creative solutions to real world problems in product discovery. Your developments are directly related to Amazon's Browse experience and impact millions of customers. Your team will build solutions ranging from Extreme Classification, automatic detection of misclassified items in the ever growing Amazon Catalog, active learning for enabling humans scaling tasks, applications for analyzing books and identify its genre, ranking product attributes, ingest images, text and all the unstructured attributes in the Amazon catalog to drive true understanding of products at scale.

The ideal candidate has managed teams productionizing ML-based systems in one or several of the following fields: Web search, Applied Machine Learning, Deep Neural Networks, Classification Systems, Clustering, Label Propagation, Natural Language Processing, Artificial Intelligence.

A successful candidate will have an established background in managing the development of existing code, scaling systems with large data sets, automation, developing customer-facing experiences, and delivering results in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include:

* Hiring, developing, and mentoring Applied Scientists, and managing engineering investments that accelerate the Science charter for scaling marketplaces
* Owning the strategic planning and project execution for long-term Science projects, creating value for our customers
* Collaborating effectively across multiple software engineering team and other technical and business teams to distill requirements and identify science investments
* Regular reporting on the status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management
