Whether you're passionate about building highly scalable and reliable systems or are a software developer who likes to solve business problems, the Customer Order Workflow (COW) team has a software development engineer position open for creative and independent engineers with a passion for web services to evolve Amazon's next-generation order management platform.

We are the engine that powers the Order Management process for Amazon's retail business. Millions of times a day, our systems make sure that Amazon customers get their stuff, and we coordinate the processing of hundreds of clients and dependent systems. Services that we own respond to thousands of service requests per second and they are always up.

As a member of the Customer Order Workflow team, you will pioneer new architectural and design choices for high-volume, high availability, highly distributed order processing systems. You'll help us re-imagine e-commerce order processing, allowing Amazon to continue to innovate and deliver new customer experiences and to support new business models. You'll help us build powerful new tools to make it faster and easier to launch new businesses. You'll help us figure out how we can make sure that Amazon is always delivering on its promises to our customers in an ever more complex environment. And you'll help build tools that make it possible for us to find and fix problems quickly and efficiently.

We are a fast-paced environment, using agile methodology and lightweight SOA design patterns. We code in object-oriented Java, with a heavy emphasis on workflow systems and enterprise integration patterns. We have a supportive team culture that encourages innovation and we expect developers and management alike to take a high level of ownership for the product vision, technical architecture and project delivery. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to all parts of the software development and deployment life-cycle, including design, development, documentation, testing and operations.
